Sheerly Genius Pantyhose Are Made Of Bulletproof Material & Seriously Indestructible
Pantyhose get such a bad rap. They are often considered the type of old-fashioned hosiery reserved for grannies. They are also known for their flimsy construction — rips, snags, tears, and runs are common. However, Sheerly Genius pantyhose are both indestructible and modern. No, really!
The new Sheerly Genius hose are built with proprietary fibers that are claimed to be 10 times stronger than steel. They are comprised of the same materials found in ballistic products, like bulletproof vests. The brand says the fiber is as strong as it is silky and sheer.
But this is not the hosiery of mere mortals. These Super Pantyhose have been tested and proven to be wearable up to 50 times. Regular brands usually give you two or three wears before you are forced to toss 'em.
Sheerly Genius' sturdy yet flexible pantyhose are available for pre-order as of Feb. 7. There is one condition. The high-end hosiery won't begin shipping until the fall. The hose are $79 for the first 1,000 orders placed. After that, they are $145 a pair. That sure is a pretty penny. But the size range starts at S and goes up to XXL.
The material is stain, odor, and moisture-resistant. So you can wear it with confidence. It's also cool to the touch while providing comfort and support. The finished product boasts reinforced seams, an invisible waistband, and a control top. Therefore, Sheerly Genius hose have some Spanx-like functionality.
Sheerly Genius pantyhose are designed to withstand the usual things that cause them to tear and render them unwearable. Zippers, fingernails, rings, kids, the dog, and Velcro are no match for Sheerly Genius. The hose are designed to be as strong as the women who wear them.
Engineering them was a labor of fashion love. The brand sought to offer options besides durable, thick, and opaque tights or disposable sheers.
According to Sheerly Genius, the customarily available fibers were either strong or sheer. They were rarely — if ever— both. Until now.
If you remain unconvinced that sheer pantyhose can be chic and modern, brand founder Katherine Hague is here to change your mind. Pantyhose are actually way more popular than you may think.
"Believe it or not, over eight billion worth of sheer pantyhose get sold every year," Hague tells Bustle via email. That's because they serve quite a utilitarian purpose. "Sheer pantyhose are a great way for any women to wear summer outfits all year long," Hague notes.
Pantyhose are also necessary attire across several industries. "Pantyhose are a wardrobe essential for many professional women like waitresses, consultants, and flight attendants, who are required to wear pantyhose as part of their everyday wardrobe," Hague reminds us.
Hague's impetus for creating the impossible-to-destroy hosiery was actually quite simple. She needed a solution to a perplexing fashion conundrum.
"Like most women, I found wearing pantyhose to be a frustrating experience," Hague explains. "My drawers were filled with old pantyhose, but I could never find a single pair without a hole in them when I was running out the door. One day, I decided enough was enough and set out to find out why in the world no one had solved this problem."
Hague spent a year on research and development, focusing on fibers and knitting techniques. She eventually found the fix in fibers normally reserved for climbing equipment and bulletproof vests.
Renew your relationship with sheer pantyhose by wrapping your legs in a pair of Sheerly Genius. Proceed to walk by rose brushes and rub against the thorns or let little kids or your dog cling to your leg. Your hose will emerge unscathed. They are truly lifeproof.
Watch Hague put the Sheerly Genius to the test and become a believer.
