The Bustle Huddle: What Bustle's Editors Are Talking About On July 13
Happy Thursday, everyone! If you're a pop culture addict, you probably spent today freaking out over Milo Ventimiglia's Emmy nomination (he earned it, OK?) or counting down the seconds until Game of Thrones comes back this weekend (can it please hurry up?). It was a good day for those who keep up with all things Hollywood — but that is not to say there wasn't any other news keeping our editors busy this Thursday. Check out a recap of everything that had Bustle's editors talking today, July 13.
The Emmy Noms + What To Know
On Thursday morning, the nominations for the 2017 Emmy Awards were announced, and This is Us fans should be very, very pleased. Other things of note: Big Little Lies and Handmaid's Tale did great, Carrie Fisher got a posthumous nod, and somehow, Barb from Stranger Things got a nom. #JusticeForBarb?
Fun Fact: Samantha Bee is the first woman to be nominated in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category. Glass ceiling, shattered.
Gigi Hadid + Zayn Malik
A Vogue cover featuring Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik is sparking some controversy, due to the fact that the magazine labels the couple, who are wearing non-traditionally masculine or feminine clothes, as "genderfluid" — despite the term meaning much more than just wearing pantsuits. In this piece, Bustle writer James Loke Hale explains why that Vogue label is so frustrating, and what being genderfluid is actually all about.
Harvard + Greek Life
It's been announced that Harvard is considering getting rid of all fraternities, sororities, and exclusive final clubs. The reasons, pointed out by faculty members, are that these kind of organizations can exclude students, promote gender discrimination, and encourage excessive alcohol use. It hasn't yet been decided if Greek life will actually leave campus, but if that ends up being the result, the effects on the college and other schools would be huge.
LOL: These memes about Kellyanne Conway's "collusion" flashcards are so, so good.
Instagram + Your Favorite Hair Trends
We're all guilty of scrolling through Instagram photos of gorgeous, unique hair looks and thinking about how cool they are — without actually being bold enough to try them out ourselves. Well, this hairstylist actually combined several hair color trends into one look, calling the final product a "color melt rainbow." It's seriously gorgeous.
Shopping Break: Ever wonder how to grow your eyelashes? These seven eyelash serums can help both lengthen and strengthen.
Today's WTF Moment: You can now buy KFC merch. Yes, really.
What to Watch: Since Emmy nominations came out today, why not spend the night catching up on shows you might've missed like Atlanta, Better Things, or The Handmaid's Tale?
