The St. Ives Mixing Bar At Bustle's Inaugural Rule Breakers Event Inspired Us To Show Our Skin Some Love

In case you missed it, Bustle held its first annual Rule Breakers event on Saturday, Sept. 22 in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Thousands of people showed up to the LeFrak Center to celebrate women who defy conventions and pave their own way. The day was packed with activations (roller skating anyone?), live musical performances (including a stage dive or two), and more, all of which further championed a truly rule-breaking spirit.

The beauty of being a rule breaker is that you get to set your own terms. You get to define what it means to rebel — and sometimes, the most rebellious thing you can do is what's good for you. In the context of beauty, that means taking care of your skin. To encourage guests to show their complexions some love, we partnered with St. Ives, who hosted a face scrub mixing bar at the event. Check out how the activation came to life below, and learn why it's cool to be kind to your skin.

Skin Care Is Like Aromatherapy

Guava tangerine, watermelon agave, apricot, blueberry, hibiscus — just reading the scents is enough to put you in a good mood. Skin care products create the ultimate sensorial experience. And those ingredients don't just smell good; they're packed with skin-loving benefits.

It's Personal

Every face is unique, and similarly, every skin-care routine is different. At the St. Ives Mixing Bar, guests got to create truly personalized face scrubs to add to their regimens, made with 100% natural extracts and exfoliants. First, they chose their favorite scent from options like aloe rose water and avocado honey. Then, they got to customize their scrub's level of exfoliation: gentle, moderate, or deep. As a final step of personalization, each guest had their jar illustrated with their name for a one-of-a-kind touch.

It's Soothing

If you've ever soaked in a tub as a bath fizz melted away or nearly put yourself to sleep massaging a cleansing stick into your face, you know that skin care can be soooothing. It's resetting, restorative. When you spend just a little time showing your skin some love, you get way more out of it than just a healthy glow.

And most importantly...

It's Fun

From living walls to free samples to touch-screen vending machines, there's no question the St. Ives Mixing Bar was the place to be at Rule Breakers. It was bright, exciting; it smelled amazing; and it proved that skin care is, in fact, fun.
