This Pizza Recipe For One Person Is The Most Adorable Thing You’ll Ever Make

Ad failed to load

I'll be the first to admit that I'm in a serious relationship with pizza, and unless you are allergic to all things delicious, there is a good chance that you feel similarly. Pizza is just the best! That's why I set out to make a single serving of pizza recipe from scratch — it's unbelievably useful to have a recipe for pizza that's made for one person on hand at all times, so that you can have it whenever you want. It's also shockingly easy, even if you have yet to learn how to cook.

Admittedly, it's even easier to pop a frozen pizza in the oven or call your BFF, also known as the local pizza delivery guy. But for the sake of all things homemade, making a small pizza from scratch is really satisfying. It's also an excellent way to avoid food waste and use up leftover ingredients.

The simplicity of this pizza lies within the crust. In place of yeast, it calls for three basic ingredients: Greek yogurt, baking powder, and flour. Better yet, you can use self-rising flour and ditch the baking powder — in either case, you don't have to wait for the dough to rise. Plus, unless you're all about homemade bread recipes, there is a higher chance that you have Greek yogurt instead of yeast.

Either way, learning how to make pizza for just you might be one of the top highlights of your adult life. (Or is that just me?) Here's how to make it happen.

Pizza From Scratch For One

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Butter or coconut oil for greasing

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

1. In a small bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, baking powder, and Greek yogurt. Mix well.

2. Continue until the mixture forms a dough. To break apart the clumps of Greek yogurt, use a fork.

3. Eventually, you should be able to knead the dough with your hands.

If you didn't use all-purpose flour, the dough might need more yogurt to stay together. This is typical when it comes to "heartier" grains like whole wheat flour. To improve the consistency, add more yogurt in 1/2 tablespoon increments.

And if the dough is too sticky? Add a sprinkling of flour, and repeat as needed.

4. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet.

5. Using your hands or a rolling pin, flatten the dough into a 6- or 7-inch circle. Try to make sure the thickness of the crust is even and not too thin.

6. In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and spices.

8. Spread onto flattened dough.

9. Now, here's the fun part. Add your favorite toppings or whatever you have on hand. For my pizza, I used cheddar cheese, zucchini, and fresh basil leaves. Yum.

10. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown.

As with all homemade dishes, there is so much room for customization. The fact that this is a small pizza also makes it easy to personalize. For some delicious inspiration, check out the following ideas:

Use A Different Flour

For a gluten-free crust, skip the all-purpose flour and use your favorite gluten-free kind. However, depending on the flour, you might need more or less Greek yogurt to achieve a doughy consistency. Don't be afraid to experiment!

Pizza isn't limited to red sauce. Hummus works just as well, especially if you need to finish up the last of a container. .

Why stop at the hummus? Pesto is another delicious alternative to the standard tomato sauce.

Pumpkin Puree

Yes... you read that right. For an autumn-inspired pizza, use pumpkin puree as sauce. Top it off with greens like kale and sage.

Hot Sauce

Hot sauce makes an obvious dip or topping, but why not add a spoonful to the dough? Something tells me a sriracha or Buffalo crust would be ah-mazing.
