Women are worthy of celebration 365 days of the year, but with March being Women’s History Month, it’s an especially great time to reflect on the incredible contributions women have made to the world. This month, Old Navy shines a spotlight on women making waves today with two new graphic tees from artists Shar Tuiasoa (@punkyaloha) and Shawna X (@shawnax) — the latest launch from Old Navy’s Project WE collaborations.

Old Navy’s Project WE initiative celebrates special cultural moments throughout the year by partnering with diverse artists to create collections of graphic tees. For the Women’s History Month drop, Tuiasoa and Shawna designed two original shirts inspired by the theme, “the power of a woman.” The shirts will be available to purchase both in-store and at OldNavy.com. In addition, Old Navy is donating $1 million to Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support youth arts programs across the country.

Already feeling inspired? Ahead, you’ll learn more about Tuiasoa and Shawna and see the gorgeous shirts they designed. After all, wearing pieces that carry a deeper significance can feel powerful in and of itself.

Shar Tuiasoa

One look at Shar Tuiasoa’s art, and you’ll immediately feel the love and admiration she has for her mana wahine (loosely translated to: powerful women) community. Ever since the Kailua, Oahu-based illustrator created Punky Aloha Studio in the summer of 2018, she’s been working her magic, creating bold, rich pieces that are a visual love letter to the beautiful islands and her Polynesian culture. Tuiasoa says she feels most powerful when she connects to the ocean and the land because it brings her closer to her culture. “It's where I go to remember where I am from, and to remind myself of the resilience of my Pasifika ancestors,” she says.

“There is so much life and healing in nature, and it really centers me and helps me to focus. When I am focused, I can do anything.” — Shar Tuiasoa

Shawna X

Meet Shawna X, a Brooklyn-based graphic artist and muralist whose art is a pulsating, psychedelic wonderland that's visually stimulating, colorful, and distinctly welcoming at the same time. Shawna believes that a powerful woman is someone who is open, compassionate, supportive — all of which comes from a place of strength. Shauna says her power comes through in her ability to connect to others on deep emotional and intuitive levels.

“I feel most powerful when I am in touch and honest about myself.” — Shawna X

Shawna’s shirt for Project WE is a tulip emitting the same vibrant energy you see in her art. “Tulips are powerful, yet sensuous, and that’s the essence of a woman,” she says. “The power is deep in the feminine divine.”
