How Does Twitter Feel About Coldplay?

by Mary Grace Garis

Whether you love music, hate music, love about football, or pretend to care about football once February roles around, there's a chance you tune into the Super Bowl halftime show each year. Like, sometimes people will tune in on that regardless of whether they're watching the game. Well, this year Coldplay has been announced as the Super Bowl's halftime show performer. And, even with the vague potential of a Beyoncé cameo, the Internet is vocalizing their opinions... loudly, sarcastically, angrily, and with a whole lot of LOLz.

OK, confession time? I'm kind of mystified by all the hate Coldplay gets. I mean, I'd never wake up in the morning and be like, "Yeah, I totally need some Chris Martin to start off the day." My iPod is all Morrissey, all the time. But I think they're good? Like, if Coldplay came on the radio at Starbucks, I wouldn't throw my spiced flat white on the floor and burn the place to the ground. Regardless, though, I love seeing people banding together in hatred. Hilarity ensues.

But don't take my word for it. In fact, let's just take a brief look at everyone enflamed by this recent revelation on Twitter. Brace yourself for the Haterade... and a handful of defenders.

Overall, I would say "divisive at best" and "pitchforks and torches at worst" sum up the overall reaction. I guess we'll have to wait it out and see the Coldplay can really pull it off... or just hope hard on that Beyoncé cameo.
