'The Walking Dead's Intense New Trailer

by Alanna Bennett

The Walking Dead's return is almost upon us, folks, and you know what that means: More cryptic trailers! This one is, to be fair, slightly less cryptic than the last Walking Dead promo, but hey, not everything's gotta be at the same level of emotionally apocalyptic, y'know? And it's not like this one isn't still a giant bummer. "We'll never get back to the way things used to be," Rick Grimes laments in this one, and it's a sentiment that makes, well, a whole lot of sense, considering that this is a cast of characters that could do with a good cathartic read of All My Friends Are Dead .

Here's what Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, when asked how much (spoiler alert but since you're reading this I assume you already know) Hershel's death will affect characters like Maggie and Beth going forward:

Incredibly, of course. It helps define both of them into who they become and it affects them very deeply in this next half-season and beyond. Hershel's death, the loss of the prison, civilization and everything they built up -- this has all been taken away from them, and they are moving into very uncharted emotional waters.

Uncharted emotional waters indeed.
