What Does Gosling & Mendes' Kid's Name Mean?

by Anna Klassen

Well, well, well. Another day, another secret celebrity baby is born! TMZ reports that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes welcomed their second child, a girl, into the world on April 29. Strangely enough, the world didn't seem to find out until nearly two weeks later. Regardless of the timeline, congratulations are in order for parents Gosling and Mendes!

According to the report, their new addition is named Amada Lee Gosling. What's particularly interesting about their baby's name is that the couple chose the name Amada for the middle name of their first daughter, Esmeralda, who is 20 months old. Considering the couple has chosen the name to use for both of their daughters in some capacity, it must be a pretty special name, right?

And indeed it is. According to an interview with Violent Grey, Amada is a family name. Mendes said of the name: "...Amada, which was my grandmother’s name. It means 'beloved' in Spanish." Considering Mendes' family is from Cuba, the fact that her daughter has a Spanish name is likely quite special to the actor.

With it's personal significance and beautiful meaning, it seems like the perfect name for baby Gosling. And it seems only fitting that if the child is taking her father's last name, her first name should be one that is deeply rooted in Mendes' own family history. And now, baby Amada will share the name with her older sister, too.

Welcome to the world Amada Gosling! We can't wait to meet you!
