Stop Asking Taylor Swift About Dating

by Caroline Pate

The latest cover of Vogue UK features Taylor Swift, and the interview with the pop star uncovers one of her most shocking answers yet: no, Taylor Swift's not dating anyone. “Dating or finding someone is the last thing on my mind, because I can't picture how it could work with the way my life is," says Swift. She told the magazine that right now, her celebrity life is too chaotic for a new beau:

I don't know how a guy is supposed to walk next to his girlfriend when there are 20 men with cameras, and he can't protect his girlfriend because that’s the life she chose. I just don't see how it could work, so I don't think about it, and I kind of run from it when it presents itself. Cause I don't think any guy really … They think that they would want to get to know me, and maybe date me, but I don't think they want what comes with it.

So since Swift has made it clear that she has no plans to date anyone anytime soon, maybe its time the media rewrite their conception of her as a serial dater. After all, Swift obviously has a lot going on in her life, and there are certainly more interesting questions to ask her. Yes, the requisite "Who are you dating?" questions come standard with any pop star interviews, but it's hard to deny that the scrutiny Swift has been under has been more strict than most — it seems that nearly every publication can only focus on who or how many people Swift is dating.

Now that Swift has clearly declared that she plans to be boy-free for a while, maybe interviewers can use this chance to ask her more important questions. How does she feel about feminism? Has she ever read Foucault? Is she a fan of Riot Grrrl? Does she get boob sweat when she performs? The possibilities are endless — as any single girl will tell you, there is no question more boring or frustrating than "Who are you dating?" Because surprise! Single women like Taylor Swift have thoughts, opinions, and other things that we're working on besides just thinking about boys all day (that's reserved for sleepovers).

So start asking Taylor Swift real questions and find out who she's dating the same way everyone else does: by looking at insanely invasive pictures of her out to lunch with some new guy on TMZ.
