One Cast Member May Be Missing If 'GG' Returns

by Lia Beck

Did you hear (read) the screams (many capitalized tweets) of joy across the nation on Monday? If you haven't heard, Gilmore Girls may be getting the revival treatment via Netflix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming site is in talks with series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and stars Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham to bring the popular show back once more. Netflix tells Bustle they are not commenting on the reports. But if the show does return, one key Stars Hollow resident may be missing. According to THR, Melissa McCarthy is "not expected" to join the alleged Gilmore Girls revival. But, why, Sookie? Why?!

Bustle has reached out to McCarthy's rep for comment, but has not yet heard back.

As THR notes, McCarthy career has really taken off since the series ended in 2007. The actress went on to appear in big budget films like Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy, and also star in the CBS series Mike & Molly. Considering the turn her career has taken since playing chef and BFF to Lorelai Sookie St. James, it wouldn't be a surprise if the actress didn't return.

That said, seeing as the rumored revival is also rumored to be four 90-minute long episodes, how could McCarthy really resist heading back to her old stomping grounds? She would have to make a cameo, right? Pop in for a one-liner? I'm getting ahead of myself (the show isn't even confirmed), but I have faith that anything could happen. I mean, hey, we weren't even talking about the possibility of a revival three hours ago.

Update: TV Line reports that there will be an eight-year time jump and that all of Rory's boys will be back for the show! Also, Lauren Graham has shared something very cryptic on Twitter about her involvement.
