Twitter Reacts to Eisenberg as Lex Luthor

As anyone who's been on the Internet in the past hour likely knows, Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man Of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman. As anyone who was on the Internet when Ben Affleck was announced to be Batman in that same movie likely predicted, Twitter blew up over the news.

Comic book fans take their movie adaptations very seriously, and even more casual fans seem to be very passionate about the casting of superhero movies, so any remotely offbeat choice unleashes a swarm of criticism. In this case, the casting of Eisenberg is a little more than offbeat.

Luthor is one of comics' most famous super villains and besides being evil, he's probably most recognized for being completely bald. That's probably part of the reason why people seemed pretty excited about rumors of Breaking Bad 's Bryan Cranston being considered for the role. That, and the fact that unlike Eisenberg, he's played a villain-like character.

On Twitter, many of the reactions compared Eisenberg to Cranston, commented on the idea of a bald Eisenberg and expressed plain disappointment with the news. There were some who actually liked the casting choice, but none of them were quite as entertaining about their feelings. Here are some of the best reactions.

Of course there were some references to Eisenberg's most famous role in The Social Network.

A few more casting suggestions.

And of course, Breaking Bad references.

Hats off Twitter, you've done it again.
