This Is More Shocking Than Bey's Last Album

by Kadeen Griffiths

Is this week giving anyone else baby whiplash? Just when I'm celebrating the fact that Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher had a baby girl, suddenly there's a new celebrity baby in the world to celebrate. However, this one comes as a particular shock because the celebrity in question wasn't on baby watch for the last nine months. Why? Because she wasn't pregnant. Despite that, Ellen Pompeo announced the birth of her second child on Thursday and the way she shared her joy with the world was unbelievably adorable.

To be fair, Pompeo has always been known for going to every effort to maintain her privacy. She and her husband, Chris Ivery, stayed under the radar while they were dating and were quietly married in a small ceremony in 2007. Their first child, Stella Luna, came along in 2009 and their latest child, Sienna May, was born via a surrogate mother in 2014. Although no specific birth date has yet been given, Pompeo did send a shout out to the Shonda Rhimes family for helping her keep her child's birth a secret for the first few weeks. That means that Sienna May was born at any point in the past between now and early September, if not late August.

How cute is that picture? If you didn't just melt into a big puddle of baby-loving goodness, then you must not be human and I don't understand you. Of course, the reactions to Pompeo's revelation that she had a second baby on the way without telling anyone and that the baby was already born several weeks ago took many fans by surprise. Reactions ranged from sheer joy to abject confusion to comparing the surprise baby to Beyoncé's surprise album, because everything in life has to do with Beyoncé in some way.

Of course, all of these are justifiable reactions, because celebrities keeping their pregnancies under wraps never works out for very long. Unless, of course, you’re Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling, neither of whom have confirmed that they were ever pregnant let alone that they are now parents to a baby girl as the stories have been saying. But regardless of whether you’re thrilled or bewildered by Pompeo’s news, you can’t deny the clear love and pride in her voice in these tweets sharing her little bundle of joy with the world. And we can only imagine how much Stella Luna must love having a new playmate around, even if that playmate won’t be able to talk for a couple of years.
