15 Photos Of The House Of The Dragon’s Fiery Cast At The Show’s UK Premiere

The House of the Dragon cast gathered in Leicester Square in London, England, on Aug. 15 for the Sky Group premiere of the Game of Thrones prequel.

King Viserys, the good-natured Targaryen king who has overseen 70 years of peace, will be portrayed by Paddy Considine. King Viserys named his daughter Rhaenyra the heir over his brother.

Emma D’Arcy plays Princess Rhaenyra, whom co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik described as “the most important role in the show, in many ways.”

Milly Alcock plays a young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, King Viserys’ firstborn daughter who enjoys many comforts often afforded to men.

Matt Smith of The Crown fame plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, King Viserys’ younger brother and Princess Rhaenyra’s main competition for heir of the throne.

Eve Best will embody Princess Rhaenys Velaryon — Viserys’ cousin. She had the strongest blood claim to the throne, but was overlooked by the council for being female and the honor was given to Viserys instead.

Olivia Cooke will be the elder version of Alicent Hightower who marries King Viserys and believes that their son Aegon II should be the heir to the throne.

Emily Carey plays a younger version of Alicent Hightower — originally Rhaenyra’s good friend and “the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms.”

Fabien Frankel will star as Ser Criston Cole, a Dornish common-born with no title, just a “preternatural skill with a sword.”

Tom Glynn-Carney, who is best known for appearing in Dunkirk, will be Aegon Targaryen. IMDb credits only one episode to his name, so he will likely have a smaller role in the first season.

Similarly, Ewan Mitchell will appear in only one episode in the first season as Aemond Targaryen.

Lord of House Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint, is a member of a Valyrian bloodline who is nicknamed “The Sea Snake.”

Sapochnik promised that the new series wouldn’t be a rehashing of the original Game of Thrones. “The idea of going back to Westeros was almost too much of a challenge. It really was seeing it through a different perspective that interested me,” he said in the behind-the-scenes trailer.

Co-showrunner Ryan Condal added, “It wasn’t just a prequel for prequel’s sake, there was actually a reason to tell this story.” House of the Dragon premieres Sunday, Aug. 21, on HBO.
