Netflix’s DAHMER — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a limited series about the notorious serial killer during his multi-decade crime spree that started in 1978, although the series flashes back even further to his childhood.

The 10-episode series, released in September 2022, has been called “gruesome, disturbing, and unnervingly precise in re-creating Dahmer’s history and the legend that has arisen around him” by critics.

On Oct. 7, Netflix also released a docuseries titled Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes. Here’s a closer look at the actors who played their real-life counterparts in the DAHMER dramatization.

Emmy winner Evan Peters portrays Jeffrey Dahmer, whose crimes include 17 killings between 1978 and 1991, which included multiple rapes and dismemberments. He was taken to trial in 1992.

Dahmer pleaded insanity (but the court declared him sane). He was sentenced to 15 life terms. He was taken to Columbia Correctional Institution, where inmates fatally attacked him in November 1994.

Niecy Nash portrays Glenda Cleveland, Jeffrey Dahmer’s neighbor who called the police over Dahmer taking in 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone in 1991. The police rebuffed her claims, which would cost Konerak his life.

If the police took her report seriously, four other people might have been saved from Dahmer. “If anything, I would want people to know that Glenda Cleveland was special. That was a special woman,” Nash said of Glenda Cleveland, who died in 2011 at age 56.

Penelope Ann Miller portrays Joyce Dahmer in the Netflix series. She and Dahmer’s father Lionel had divorced in 1978. She won the custody battle over their son David, who was 12 at the time.

Joyce died in 2000 after battling breast cancer.

Shawn J Brown portrays victim Tracy Edwards, who escaped and survived an encounter with Dahmer. “He underestimated me,” Edwards said in 1991. “God sent me there to take care of the situation.”

After surviving his encounter with Dahmer, Edwards helped police find evidence to Dahmer’s killing spree. It’s unknown where he is now.

Richard Jenkins portrays Lionel Dahmer, who visited Jeffrey once a month in prison, and they spoke on the phone weekly until Jeffrey’s death in 1994.
