Sometimes called a pineapple because of the way hair explodes from the top of the head in one glorious poof, high puff hairstyles are a chic, easy way to style your curls. Pinterest sees more people celebrating their natural texture over the new year via looks like this one.
How to achieve the look? “Everyone has their methods, but I find that using string allows you to quickly go back and forth with having the puff sit atop your head, or lower,” says hairstylist and owner of Diaspora Salon, Yasmine Young. A no-snag elastic or satin scrunchie will work, too.

Daisy Henson, founder of San Diego-based The Daze Studio, offers another tip: “If you have lower density hair, too much product can overly define your hair and diminish the size of your puff. Bigger is better! A little frizz adds to the volume and beauty of the high puff.”
“A puff is a natural or curly girl’s version of a ponytail,” says Young. The versatility makes it a great go-to. “It’s a great choice for workout sessions, a night out, or a formal event,” adds Henson. Keep it cool and effortless, or add a cute accessory — it’s all fair game.
