Rita Ora's DIY Hair Mask For Platinum Blonde Hair

by Emily McClure

It's no secret that Rita Ora has insanely gorgeous hair. However, did you know that it's actually a DIY hair mask that Rita Ora swears by to keep her luscious locks looking so blonde and healthy? As any bleach blonde knows, it's hard to maintain such a bright color. From foils to bleach, it can be a very time-consuming process that ultimately takes a toil on your hair. However, Rita Ora has clearly found a way to make lightening her hair work for her all while keeping her hair healthy. In a recent interview with Allure.com, Ora's hairstylist, Chris Appleton revealed how Ora maintains her hair's platinum shade.

Appleton creates a DIY hair mask that both tones the color hair, while adding moisture and shine. The stylist mixes together the Kérastase Résistance Masque Thérapiste, Oribe Masque for Beautiful Color, a drop of the Shu Uemura Protective Oil, and just a touch of blue pigment to tone down any yellow coloring in the hair. The toning down of any yellow in the blonde color is what allows the platinum to shine through. Appleton even mentioned that Ora will sometimes let this treatment soak while she's on an airplane to get the mask's full effect. Now, that's how you make a hair mask work for you! Wondering how you can create a similar, cheaper hair mask at home? Here are a few alternatives to Rita Ora's DIY hair treatment mask.

1. Lemon & Chamomile Mask

Need to lighten your blonde locks? Both lemon and chamomile are known to have brightening properties that really perk up blonde hair. Mix cooled chamomile tea with the juice of a whole lemon, and let soak into your hair. After a few minutes, rinse your hair with shampoo and conditioner for long-lasting shine.

2. Grape Kool-Aid Rinse

Now, bear with me on this. Grape Kool-Aid mix can actually brighten your blonde strands. Take a 1/4 tablespoon of purple Kool-Aid, and mix it into four tablespoons of your normal shampoo. The purple pigment in the Kool-Aid will counteract with any yellow or orange pigments in your hair color. Let this soak in your hair for a few minutes, and rinse.

3. Lemon & Honey Treatment

Lemon is the go-to for any DIY-blonde hair treatment. Lemons are packed with powerful brightening chemicals that are great for blondes. These chemicals coupled with honey make for a perfect hair mask for blondes.

Even if we can't all be Rita Ora, at least we can mimic her hair treatments, right? Almost the same thing.
