Daniel Radcliffe Is A Big Romantic

by Maitri Suhas

Daniel Radcliffe. What is it about the little dude that's just so dang charming? Obviously, an entire generation has been bewitched by the young wizard. Of course I'm gonna love Dan Radcliffe my whole life, even if I never see another movie he's in besides Harry Potter, because he's Harry Potter. (I've actually seen plenty, and he's a great actor, but he's still Harry Potter first and foremost). Daniel Radcliffe is dating actress Erin Darke, and even though they are generally a private couple, the 25-year-old British actor has no qualms when it comes to gabbing about the "complexities of love" (his words, not mine) in interviews. What can he say? He's a romantic.

Last summer, Radcliffe fielded a lot of questions about love and marriage, horses and carriages, etc., while he was promoting his romantic comedy What If. Not only did Radcliffe tell fans just about everything he thinks about falling in love, he also said that he wants to do more romantic comedies in the future, which is good news for everyone. Here are six quotes from Radcliffe that prove he's a wizard in the love department, too. (I had to make the joke.):

1. He Used To Write A Lot of Love Poems

In an interview with Elle, Radcliffe admitted that even though he grew up a star in the wizarding world, in some ways, he was your good old-fashioned angsty teen."I was writing poetry more consistently when I was 16 to 19 or 20. In that period I would have written a lot of love poems. I have none that I want to see in print on the Internet forever," he said. Writing bad love poems: it's a part of growing up!

2. He's Dating His Best Friends

Radcliffe and his girlfriend Erin Darke have been together since 2013, after they met working together on the set of the film Kill Your Darlings. For most part, there love is quite private (although he has publicly denied that they are engaged). But Radcliffe did say that Darke is not only his girlfriend, she's his best friend, and that's exactly how it should be. "I think that's the kind of relationship I always aspire to have with someone I'm in a relationship with. You want that person to be your best friend. In the case of Erin, we definitely are," he told Us Weekly.

3. He's A One-Woman Man

Radcliffe told the Daily Mail that as far as women go, he thinks he's been lucky so far, and when he finds a good one, he sticks with her: "I've never been paranoid about girls dating me for the wrong reasons, because I'm a pretty good judge of character. And I only go for intelligent girls. I’m a serial monogamist," he said. Don't take this to mean that Harry should have ended up with Hermione, though.

4. He's Old-Fashioned

The future is now, and celebrities are on Tinder for us regulars to swipe left or right on (but hey — that means they're swiping you, too). But not DanRad. He told Parade last year that while he thinks the Internet is a good way for some people to meet their match, it's just not his bag: "There are plenty of people who didn’t meet on [Internet] sites who also have problems. But personally, if I were looking for a lasting relationship, I would find it hard to start that way [online]." He met his girlfriend the good old-fashioned way: they were co-workers who became friends then began dating.

5. He Thinks Love Is Hard To Find, But Worth It

Beyond the fact that Radcliffe thinks the Internet is not the best way to meet someone, he also thinks technology is making it harder to find love for Kids These Days. He told Parade, "The Internet is very quick and efficient. And that’s the world in which a lot of young people are living, in terms of the speed with which things happen. Like other things on the Internet, the longevity of [love] always comes into question. But I think love is generally difficult to achieve."

6. He Learned From His Parents

Radcliffe's romanticism was a foregone conclusion; he admires his parents' marriage and learned a lot from it. "I think my mom and dad have an incredibly equal marriage. Sometimes, when I watch American dating TV shows, like The Millionaire Matchmaker ... and I'm like, 'How are you speaking to a woman like this?!'" he told Elle. Things we have learned about DanRad: he's respectful to the women in his life, and he likes trash TV just like the rest of us.

Erin Darke is one lucky woman, but if it doesn't work out for them, maybe Harry Potter will finally get on Tinder. He seems like he has a lot of love in his heart.
