Kristin Chenoweth Is A Voiceover Master

by Loretta Donelan

My Little Pony was one of the first — and most unlikely — successful examples of stories based on TV shows. And now, after the success of the 2010 animated series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic comes another installment in the trend of movies based on toys: According to the Wrap, Kristin Chenoweth will provide her voice for My Little Pony 's upcoming movie.

According to the report, Meghan McCarthy — who wrote and produced for Friendship Is Magic — is writing the screenplay, and the film will be produced by Hasbro (aka, the manufacturers of My Little Pony, LEGO, and Transformers toys, amongst others). The movie's basic plot has already been revealed: An evil force will threaten Ponyville, home of the beloved characters Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity, forcing them to journey to save their home — and, presumably, to meet Chenoweth's new character on the way.

Chenoweth seems like an obvious choice for the movie. She has that girly voice and persona that meshes well with the brand. She is also, obviously, a gifted singer, and considering the film will reportedly feature all new music, this will likely be highlighted. Chenoweth is no stranger to voice acting, having lent her unique voice to lots of animated characters over the years:

Gabi In Rio 2

Chenoweth showed off her singing chops in this popular children's sequel, in which she voiced the evil tree frog Gabi.

Vanessa Gekko On BoJack Horseman

Chenoweth voiced the slimy agent Vanessa Gecko on the Netflix animated series...who was, surprisingly, not a gecko.

Devin On American Dad

She briefly appeared on the animated comedy as a lesbian roller derby competitor. Amazing.

The Sugar Plum Fairy In Strange Magic

Chenoweth leant her voice to this star-studded — but ill-fated — computer-animated fantasy.

Rosetta In Tinker Bell

In Disney's animated Tinker Bell movies, Chenoweth voiced another fairy — a role obviously perfectly suited for her.

Miracle Grohe In Sit Down/Shut Up

Chenoweth starred as a hippie in this FOX animated comedy.

Kilowatt In Space Chimps

Appearing alongside Andy Samberg in this animated film, she played a freaky alien.

Princess/Mother In Robot Chicken

Chenoweth voiced a couple different characters in this Adult Swim sketch comedy series.

Museum Guide In Fillmore!

In her first voice acting role, she had a small role on this classic Disney Channel show.

With all her experience playing feisty/girly fantasy creatures, My Little Pony fans should be happy with this choice — and I imagine Hasbro is as well.
