A Cereal Bar Is Coming To Brooklyn

by Jessica Learish

The world might be waiting for the return of Sarah Koenig's Serial this fall, but the residents of New York City are eagerly anticipating a different kind of cereal. A new Kith NYC cereal bar will open in Brooklyn later this August, answering the prayers of breakfast enthusiasts throughout the city. Located in Flatbush, the bar will reportedly feature 24 cereals, 10 kinds of milk, and 30 toppings, all available to mix and match. But this won't be your typical sit-and-snack type of restaurant. The cereal bar will be a unique and whimsical addition to Kith NYC, an NYC shoe boutique owned by Ronnie Fieg.

That's pretty much all we know about Fieg's ode to O's, brans, and charms. Will Kith have a more comprehensive menu, complete with breakfast sandwiches and bagels, like L.A.'s Venice Flake? Will it incorporate some sort of frozen treat into its repertoire, or will it be strictly Fruit Loops and chocolate milk? Brooklynites have less than three weeks of waiting before they find out for themselves.

The store is being touted as New York's first cereal bar. And while that may be up for debate, it's almost certainly the world's first conjoined cereal bar and sneaker boutique. All I ask is that Kith has a sneaker-related playlist to jam to while cereal connoisseurs create the perfect mix of Cap'n Crunch and Coco Puffs.

Kith's foray into the cereal business is already generating buzz. Fieg recently tweeted out this save-the-date to fans of the beloved breakfast food:

Can't make it to Brooklyn for the launch? Here are some cereal-related recipes to hold you over.

1. No-Bake Honey Nut Cheerios Snack Bars

Assemble this recipe from Averie Cooks, and pop it in the microwave for three minutes. After they've been allowed to cool for about two or three hours in the refrigerator, you've got yourself some incredibly festive snack bars.

2. Fruity Pebbles Pancakes

These awesome funfetti-like pancakes are made with Fruity Pebbles and crushed meringues. The end result is like a celebration of all things breakfast. Find the recipe at I Am A Food Blog.

3. Malibu Rum Fruit Loops Treats

Averie Cooks strikes again with these rum-infused marshmallow cereal treats. Basically, it's a Rice Krispies Treat that got the rainbow treatment and a splash of rum for good measure. As Averie herself writes, "Kiddie cereal never tasted so good until it got liquored up."
