It can be tough to find cute shoes for women with big feet. If you're a size 10 or above you can often be relegated to the clearance section with it's mismatched sandals and no-name brands. Occasionally, a stylish, blogger-approved pair might appear... only for you to learn that Prada's idea of an American size and your actual foot don't see eye to eye. Not even close. Don't worry, this year my giant feet and I are here to help you navigate the tricky task of fall boot shopping!
I know what it's like to squeeze into a just-too-small pair of boots (and deal with the subsequent blisters) because I've had large feet since a growth spurt in the second grade. I even remember crying in the shoe store during back to school shopping, when all I wanted was a pair of light-up sneakers but got stuck with boring pink and white Nikes because, "LA Lights don't come in adult sizes." Talk about soul crushing.
Luckily, shoe brands and stores are finally taking notice that women's feet (like women) come in all sizes. Websites like Long Tall Sally specifically stock only special sizes and on Shoebuy you can specifically search by higher sizes and wide-fit shoes so that you'll never fall in love with a too small pair. So while my childhood self might never have found her perfectly large pair, my shoe closet is currently (over)stocked with of the moment trends and classic, tried and true styles. Here are nine of my favorites for fall, all of which come in size 10 and up.
Ah, the cognac ankle boot! Just spotting one in the distance transports me to an apple orchard covered in crisp fallen leaves. Luckily for us, Pikolinos knows we like to frolic as much as our small-footed sisters and made the Verona Ankle Boot available up to size 12.
Every woman needs a pair of structured, leather over the knee boots this fall. They go with everything from skinny jeans to midi dresses and work for a night out or a day at the office. Long Tall Sally makes a gorgeous pair of black leather boots that not only balance practical with sexy, but are also available up to size 15.
3. High End Wings
Why not embrace your long toes by emphasizing their length with Sophia Websters' gorgeous butterfly wings? Yes, they're a splurge, but just picture these with black skinny jeans, and an oversized cream sweater in November. Right?
4. Peep Toe
Something about a peep-toe boot might seem just a tad bit counterintuitive in January, but for fall these peep-toe booties by Toms perfectly bridge the gap between summer and winter. All of Toms shoes are available up to a size 12, and you can feel good knowing that you provided a pair of shoes for a child in need.
Silvers and golds flooded the fall runways from Bottega Veneta to Prada but anyone can get in on the metallic trend with Splendid's Hamptyn Champagne boots. Relaxed and comfortable, they'll bring a little bit of party to even the dreariest day.
Another of the biggest fall trends, patchwork isn't the easiest pattern to incoproate into a closet. But with a careful blend of navy and maroon leather with soft black calf hair Laurence Decade's Ankle Boots will make you wonder why you never tried patchwork before.
If you're looking for an edgier style, you can always count on Dr. Martens. The best part? Since they're unisex, you can get them in sizes all the way up to a men's 16.
Minnetonka is always there when you need a bit of authentic fringe at a great price. Their three layer fringe boots come in four colors though size 12.
9. Rain Boots
Finally, for those late thunder storms in September, a woman needs a sturdy pair of rain boots. These bright red ones by Bogs will add a cheerful pop of color to wet days without weighing you down.
Happy shoe shopping, my fellow big footed ladies!
