While everyone else was dressed to the nines, UK-based band Little Mix arrived at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards in a set of geeky ensembles (and I mean that in the best way possible). Trading in their usual mini skirts and dramatic lipstick for scrunchies and sweatervests, Jesy, Perrie, Leigh-Anne, and Jade certainly turned some heads on the red carpet — and on Twitter.
Of course, this wasn't just some random fashion statement. Anyone who's seen the band's "Black Magic" music video would recognize these nerdy costumes instantly. The music video starts out with the foursome in similar ensembles, then stumbling upon a spellbook of sorts that allows them to turn into belly-baring babes an instantly win the hearts of every boy in high school. A questionable message, for sure, especially when the same magic spell allows them to skip out on math class.
Hopefully, though, re-wearing those baggy corduroy pants and thick-rimmed glasses on a fancy red carpet is Little Mix's way of saying they're actually pretty down with dressing however you want. I'm pretty down with all four looks tonight, but Leigh-Anne's mom jeans have to be my absolute favorite, with Perrie's pink baseball cap coming in a close second.
Chances are the costumes are just for their performance at the TCAs. They were even warming up on the carpet.
Here's hoping the message behind the music is a little more positive at the show.
