Melissa Mccarthy Is Against Plus-Size Labels On Clothing, And Her Melissa McCarthy Seven7 Line Won't Include Those Distinctions
It seems as though Melissa McCarthy is not for plus-size labeling. The comedy queen just launched a line of clothing for a wide range of sizes and she has very strong motivation behind her decision to drop the "plus-size" tags. Her collection comes in a wide range of sizes from four through 28. And all of the items will hang on the same rack. Typically, some of those sizes classified as "plus-size," but McCarthy is most definitely not about that life.
McCarthy's reason for pushing away the term "plus-size," is her belief that a plus-size section is essentially "taking your biggest category of people and telling them, ‘You’re not really worthy,'" she told Refinery 29. She later goes on to express that "if you’re going to make women’s clothing, make women’s clothing. Designers that put everyone in categories are over-complicating something that should be easy.”
With a booming career and years of success in the entertainment industry, she has a fan base and a support system that is completely backing her vision and creative venture. Not to mention, she's changing the game for the fashion industry as well, paving a new road for designers and retailers to embrace women of all sizes. Her "fashion schooling is coming in handy," according to Entertainment Tonight, and that's the truth. The collection will feature "animal prints, bold geometrics and body-hugging silhouettes," in every size!
