A Disturbing New Twist In The Subway Jared Case

by Jenny Hollander

Truly, each update about "Subway Jared" Fogle and his child pornography investigation is more disturbing than the last. On Wednesday, documents released by the U.S. Attorney's office revealed that Fogle will plead guilty to having sex with a minor, as well as possessing and distributing child pornography. Though Fogle is only pleading guilty to two counts total, the extent of his time behind bars (at least five years, possibly more than 10) and the details of the plea deal imply that there's more to the story. For example, Fogle is paying $100,000 to 14 victims who are or were minors — a total of $1.4 million in restitution — even though he's only pleading guilty to one sex act.

While Fogle's lawyers agreed in the plea deal that he will be sentenced to at least five years in prison, the documents show that the U.S. Attorney's office is pushing for more — at least 12 and a half years. Additionally, Fogle will have to register as a sex offender and receive treatment. When in prison, Fogle will leave behind a wife and two kids at home.

Subway, which initially suspended its 15-year partnership with Fogle after the FBI raided his home in May, has now completely cut ties with its former spokesperson.
