You Can Now Buy Ralph Lauren's PoloTech Smartshirt

by Emily Kirkpatrick

Ralph Lauren will once again be the official outfitter for the U.S. Open, with the brand bringing back their PoloTech smartshirt for the event. Not only will the designer reintroduce this piece of wearable tech in the competitive arena, but the Ralph Lauren PoloTech top will be available at mass market as well, according to Fashionista.

The brand first introduced this wearable tech innovation by putting it on players at last year's Open, and now it's back and better than ever. PoloTech features silver fibers and sensors that feed biometric information, such as "heart rate, breathing rate and depth, movement, steps taken and calories burned," Fashionista reports, directly into the wearer's iPhone via an iOS app. The shirt can also give you real-time feedback during your workout, encouraging you to breath deeper, push harder, and even keeps track of reps and weights used.

As for the shirt itself, it is composed of a breathable, black tech fabric with many of the straps and tracking devices visibly integrated into the top's make up. It also features an oversized yellow Polo logo emblazoned across the chest. The PoloTech shirt is now available for $295 on the Ralph Lauren website, at their NYC flagship store, and at the brand's pop-up store at the U.S. Open.

Lauren worked with Montreal-based biometric smartwear company OMsignal on the logistical aspects of the shirt, since they previously created an almost identical piece of wearable tech, which can be viewed in action in the video below.

Ralph Lauren may be the first big fashion brand to create this type of apparel-integrated piece of technology, but there are still lots of high fashion tastemakers getting in on the wearable tech game. Check out three of their most covetable creations below.
