Selena Thinks "Jelena" Fans Are Stuck In The Past

by Jaclyn Anglis

Selena Gomez is reflecting on the past, but that does not mean she wants to go back. In an interview with the U.K.'s Sunday Times, the pop star dished about the ongoing fascination with her and her ex-boyfriend and the rumors that still follow them to this day. And this time, it sounds like Selena Gomez might really be over Justin Bieber for good.

The "Come And Get It" performer is not getting back together with Bieber, but she can understand why the media and some fans of the former couple cannot let "Jelena" rest in piece. "It's difficult for people to separate us," the 23-year-old said. "The Internet wants to freeze this moment in time and constantly repeat it."

But just because fans wants to permanently stick the two together does not mean that she will do what they want. And just because she won't revisit the past does not mean that she regrets her relationship. "I didn't think I was doing anything bad by falling in love," Gomez said. "There's such an emphasis on people being the perfect thing and then destroying them because it's good press. Throw in the fact that you're a teenager — it makes it more difficult."

Well, it seems like Gomez might really be over Bieber, and she's definitely over all the press that has still followed them. The breakup has obviously been a big change for her, but this reflection shows that she has a positive outlook on this life development, which is the first step to being able to move on.

Moving on couldn't have been easy. Bieber and Gomez had a pretty rocky on-and-off relationship, starting back in 2010. In the years following, it seemed like they were always in break-up or make-up mode, which of course made for tabloid fodder. Last year was the last time that the onetime sweethearts broke it off. But if you check out recent press about them, you would think that they were still in the thick of their old relationship. It is worth applauding Gomez for speaking up about moving on, even though it seems like no one else really has.

But don't think that all this drama means that Gomez is going to keep her next man hidden from the spotlight. She already knows that her beau will be someone who she is proud to show off. "The next relationship will be something dear to me. There is no way I will ever hide my life," she said in the same Sunday Times interview.

I can't wait to see what lucky guy she ends up with next.
