Don't Underestimate Jorge Ramos — VIDEO

by Hope Racine

He may have been ejected by Donald Trump on Tuesday, but Jorge Ramos shouldn't be underestimated. There are a lot of videos of Jorge Ramos that show he's a formidable journalist. During a heated exchange before a Trump rally in Iowa on Tuesday, Trump told Ramos to "go back to Univision," had him escorted from the room, and then called him "a very emotional person." But Jorge, a respected Mexican-American journalist and Univision anchor wasn't ready to give in.

The skirmish started when Ramos attempted to question Trump about his immigration plan without previously being called on. After a back and forth, Ramos was ejected from the room, but later allowed back in, at which point Trump took several of his questions, and debated with him.

During the exchange, Ramos grilled Trump on his statements about illegal immigrants, his deportation plan, and promise to build a wall between Mexico and the United States. During Ramos' questions, Trump interjected to reference the $500 million lawsuit he currently has against Univision, an American Spanish language network. The broadcast company chose not to air the 2015 Miss Universe beauty pageant, following Trump's comments about immigration. According to The Washington Post, Trump is currently suing them for breach of contract and defamation.

Aside from just being rude, Trump's continual dismissal of Ramos is especially frustrating given his position as a highly respected Hispanic journalist, and his numerous contributions to the field during the course of his long career.

In case anyone needs a refresher, here are seven videos that showcase Ramos' journalistic chops.

When He Challenged Ted Cruz On Immigration

In his characteristic, no-nonsense style, Ramos asked Cruz to answer one simple question.

His One-On-One With Hillary Clinton

In 2014, Ramos interviewed Clinton while she was promoting her book Hard Choices. The interview was a casual one-on-one, during which Clinton was much more forthcoming than she usually is during interviews.

When He Interviewed Four U.S. Senators About Immigration Reform

Few journalists would try to tackle four politicians at once during an interview, but Ramos was more than up to the challenge.

His Interview With House Speaker John Boehner

While taking questions, Boehner found himself repeatedly challenged by Ramos, as the journalist attempted to get a clear answer.

When He Grilled Bernie Sanders

Even Sanders isn't safe in Ramos' quest to get politicians to clarify their statements and positions.

His Conversation With President Obama

A journalist needs to have a high level of respect and experience in order to be set loose on the president and given free reign to grill him. Which is exactly what Ramos did to Obama.

When He Recreated The Immigrant Experience

While he's a respected anchor, Ramos isn't afraid to get into the field and experience his stories himself. In this video, he attempts to recreate one of the hazardous ways that immigrants attempt to enter the country, to showcase the dangers of the situation.

Ramos, in addition to being an experienced journalist, is also an expert on immigration issues. It's clearly an issue that's extremely important to him, and when it comes up in interviews he's unrelenting in his attempts to get politicians to provide clear, straight forward answers.
