Ed Sheeran’s Songwriting Talent Strikes Again

by Maggie Malach

Fact: Ed Sheeran makes me swoon with pretty much every word he sings (or speaks, for that matter). He already wrote one of the best songs to walk down the aisle to, but apparently Sheeran wrote a love song for Rita Ora and it sound like it will be amazing. The song will reportedly appear on Ora's upcoming album.

“The record that I have with Ed, he’s not featured on, he just wrote," Ora told the Rap-Up. "It’s called ’Us’ and for me, it’s one of the most sweetest, heartwarming, incredible love songs-slash-reality that I’ve ever heard. And it kinda makes me think, ‘Thank God that someone wrote that in a song.' It fits perfectly with the concept of my album and I just can't wait for you guys to hear it.”

I can't wait for me to hear it, either. Whether Sheeran is writing his own music, collaborating with people like Taylor Swift, or lending his talents to other artists, like One Direction, the songwriter never fails to strike a specific emotion with each track. I'm confident that his song for Ora will be just as amazing as she promises.

I don't know when we'll be able to hear "Us," but here's seven other times Sheeran put into words what us mere mortals cannot.

1. "Sunburn"

"I saw your eyes / And I saw Alice staring back at me / So I will try to find another one / Who suited me as well as her," Sheeran sings about the pain of being haunted by an ex.

2. "Lego House"

"My three words have two meanings, but there's one thing on my mind," Sheeran says in this song that discusses trying to mend a broken relationship.

3. "Thinking Out Loud"

Sheeran's timeless love transcends time as he sings, "When your legs don't work like they used to before / And I can't sweep you off of your feet / Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love? / Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?"

4. "Photograph"

Long distance relationships have never been so heartbreakingly poignant as when Sheeran sings, "So you can keep me / Inside the pocket / Of your ripped jeans / Holdin' me closer / 'Til our eyes meet / You won't ever be alone / Wait for me to come home."

5. "Give Me Love"

Sheeran pleads for love as he sings, "All I want is the taste that your lips allow."

6. "Afire Love"

Sheeran pays tribute to his late grandfather, including his 20-year battle with Alzheimer's disease, in this poignant song. "My father told me, son / It's not his fault he doesn't know your face," Sheeran sings.

7. "Shirtsleeves"

Sheeran uses his shirtsleeves to wipe away his girlfriend's tears, even after she admitted she cheated. Sample heart-breaking lyrics: "When salted tears won't dry / I'll wipe my shirtsleeves / Under your eyes."

Feeling misty-eyed yet? Hopefully we'll be able to hear Sheeran and Ora's collaboration soon!
