Miley Cyrus Debuts A New Song

by Lia Beck

When I heard Miley Cyrus was hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, my mind was a little bit blown. Shouldn't the host be whoever the comedian du jour is at the time? (Seriously, pretty much all of these things have been hosted by comedians, from Roseanne Barr to Kevin Hart.) Yet, the girl who nearly got foam fingers banned from sporting events across the nation after the 2013 awards was going to host them. On top of that, it turned out that Miley Cyrus would perform at the 2015 VMAs, too. When she took the VMAs stage, Miley Cyrus performed a song that came from — surprise! — the new album that she announced at the end of her performance. Oh yeah, and the album is available online for free. Man, this was a crazy night.

The 22-year-old singer's performance began with her shouting the lines, "Yeah, I smoke pot. Yeah, I love peace. But I don't give a f*ck. I ain't no hippie." Soon after, Cyrus was joined on stage by two dozen or more drag queens who joined in with her chanting the lyrics. The very colorful show later became a giant onstage dance party. Andthen, she announced her new album titled Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.

The song that Cyrus sang is called "Dooo It!" and came from a collaboration between the former Hannah Montana star and Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. In June, Coyne told Page Six , the lyrics include, "'Yeah, I smoke pot/Yeah, I love peace/But I don’t give a f *c k/I ain’t no hippie' . . . And then it goes into a revolutionary rap . . . It’s her way of saying, 'Hey man, live your own life, do your own thing, don’t let people tell you what to do.'"

Well, that sounds exactly like what I would expect. If you're interested, you can take a listen to Cyrus' new album here.
