Alternatives To The My Calvins Trend

by Eliza Florendo

If you're a fashion lover, chances are you've seen the #mycalvins hashtag popping up on your Instagram feed, joined by a photo of a person scantily clad in a matching Calvin Klein underwear and bralette set, and chances are, you've been pretty envious. But fear not, because here are 5 alternatives to #mycalvins, so you can get your inner athleisure lover out.

In spring of 2014, the Calvin Klein brand launched a social media campaign that had users post photos of themselves in the iconic Calvin Klein waistband with the hashtag "mycalvins." Well, it turned out that campaign was pretty successful, still running in the fall of 2015 with no intention of stopping, and even has one of fashion's biggest it girl at the moment, Kendall Jenner, spearheading it.

The campaign, "show yours, #mycalvins" snagged over 100 "influencers" to use this hashtag, including Trey Songz, Fergie, and model Clark Bockelman, according to Out Magazine. Other participants included Miranda Kerr, Lara Stone, and Poppy Delevigne.

It's so ubiquitous that the matching bra and briefs set has been sold in stores like Century21 and in Urban Outfitters, and even some knockoffs have popped up, too. Perhaps what's so popular about it is that it embraces the athletic lifestyle trend, which has been taking the fashion world by storm the past few seasons. I won't lie, a pair of #mycalvins looks pretty dope when styled correctly.

But with such a high demand, you may not be able to find a pair to snag for yourself. Or, maybe, you want to steal the look, but aren't a fan of emblazoned brands. Either way, check out some cool alternatives, below, and how to style them IRL.

1. The Classic

Christie Panty, $16, & Christie Bra, $18, A merican Apparel

Simple, and clean, this would look totally cute with a mesh jersey and circle skirt. Generally, you'll want to stick to see-through items or things you can button down to show off your cute skivvies.

2. The More Feminine Version

Cheek Frills x Carolyn Murphy Lace-Trimmed Striped Soft-Cup Bra & Briefs Set, $50, Net-A-Porter

For those who are more into a classic style bra versus a sports one, this is a great option. Of course, you'll want to show off the cute pattern, and a thin, jersey knit white tee will do just that!

3. The Ultra High Waist

Miss Guided Active Motif High Waisted Briefs, $14, M iss Guided

Love a good high waist. With your matching brief set, crochet items are your best friend. This would look super cute with a crochet cover up on a scorching hot day.

4. The Smaller Band Version

Lane Bryant Dazzler Brief Panty, 5 for $35, L ane Bryant

Maybe you're not a fan of the large band — let that thinner, more modest band still show a bottom that's still high waist, but one that's a little more low-rise than the brief.

5. The Colorful Alternative

The Player Racerback Sports Bra, 2 For $25, V ictoria's Secret

Probably the easiest way (I think) to wear this trend in real life is with a pair of overalls, whether they be shorts or cropped pants. With one buckle clipped in and the other swinging, its a carefree, cool look that's also super comfortable.
