Kylie Jenner Shows Off Her Activist Side

by Jaclyn Anglis

Kylie Jenner is moving beyond the selfie. The reality star wants her followers to take more serious issues into consideration on social media, so Kylie Jenner launched an anti-bullying campaign on Instagram, with a snap of an illustration of the simple hashtag #IAmMoreThan. In the accompanying caption, Jenner wrote,

I am so excited to launch my new @Instagram campaign #IAmMoreThan. For the next six days, I will be sharing stories of 6 incredible people who have become heroes in their own way by taking #bullying and turning it into something positive. I’ve gotten to talk and bond with all of these people whose stories you will see on my page. I think you will all fall in love with them just like I did. I want to encourage you, my fans, to share something positive about yourselves. I'll be reading as much as I can so that some of you can be apart of this as well! Let's do this ❤️ #IAmMoreThan #StopBullying.

It is actually not as surprising as you might think that the 18-year-old is taking on this campaign. Earlier this summer, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians personality revealed in a series of Snapchat videos that she often feels bullied by "the world" due to being in the public eye. She even said that the bullying started when she was only nine years old. And now, it seems like Jenner is embracing her activist side by reaching out to others who have felt bullied and by sharing their stories. Since bullying is a huge issue for so many people of all backgrounds and ages, it is a positive thing that she is publicly addressing it and using her platform for a good cause.

This is also not the first time Jenner has publicly joined a cause to fight bullying. She and her older sister Kendall joined forces with Seventeen back in the spring of 2013 for their Delete Digital Drama Campaign, an anti-bullying campaign, that, as you can probably guess, focused specifically on online drama.

While it has not been specified yet what type of bullying Jenner will be combatting through her new movement, one thing that we can know for certain is that social media and the digital sphere will be used as a force for good through sharing people's stories. Hopefully, this will inspire more people to speak up in a similar way.

In any case, it is worth applauding Jenner for stepping up to the challenge. It is not easy to stand up to bullies, especially if you are a victim of bullying yourself. But it looks like the teenager is about to show us that it is well worth the fight.
