My Beauty Diary: Liz Cherkasova of Late Afternoon On Fall Inspiration, Pink Hair, and Finding Creativity Where You Can

If you’re ever in need of inspiration — fashion, beauty, decor, or nearly anything else — Liz Cherkasova of Late Afternoon is your girl. While working in a research-based office job, she was craving creativity, so Late Afternoon was born. She started posting her outfits and images of beautiful things in her everyday life without any expectations, and the site has become huge.

I’ve found myself getting lost in her bright Instagram feed many a time. I've turned to her site for endless hair inspiration (her piecey blonde lob is perfect), tutorials (like how to wave your hair with a flatiron) and the most beautiful travel photos ever. And, because she's a bride-to-be, you’ll find the dreamiest wedding gown photos.

I had a chance to spend a few hours with the blonde beauty, during which I learned about her spontaneous pink hair, what inspires her beauty routine, fashion ideas for fall (the changing of the leaves plays big part), and what photos she gets the most likes on. Below are 12 things you probably didn’t know about Liz, and some photos to peruse as you daydream at your desk.

1. Her Blog Is Named After Her Favorite Time Of The Day.

"It’s called Late Afternoon because that’s my favorite time of day, and the time that I shoot all of my clothes. I based everything off of my personal style. I never thought twice about the name — I just did it and it stuck."

2. The Seasons Inspire Her Beauty Routine.

"Most of my beauty and fashion inspiration comes from the changing seasons. I like to introduce a darker lip into my daily beauty routine for fall. This season, I'm loving shades of berry. I'm also so excited to start wearing leather and suede again and for the leaves to start changing. I have a tradition of going to Maine every October to see the leaves changing."

3. She's Spontaneously Dyed Her Hair Pink.

"The most fun thing I've done for beauty was dying my hair pink. I always change my hair — constantly. Pink is my favorite color, and I just wanted pink hair one day. I did it on my own. I literally just woke up, bought pink dye, and did it. I never thought twice. Nothing I do is planned — everything is spontaneous."

4. Mascara Is A Must. Also: Pants.

"I'd never leave my house without mascara—it makes me feel confident. I've also learned to never leave the house in sweatpants. I’ve learned to actually put pants on!"

5. She Began Blogging While Working A Desk Job.

"I started blogging during my last year of college because I was doing a lot of research work and needed something creative. I grew pretty quickly because I was still pretty new. I started modeling, and within the next six months, I took off."

6. Her Morning Beauty Trick Was Passed Down From Her Mom

"I picked this up from my mom and have been doing it since I was a kid: Every morning, I run ice cubes over my face to help reduce puffiness. Sometimes, I make them with rose water or green tea. It's the first thing I do when I wake up."

7. iPhone Photos > Professional Photos. (At Least For Her Followers.)

"My followers love to see that I'm taking photos from my iPhone camera rather than a professional camera. That's what does the best for me — bright, everyday photos that feel real and authentic and not staged."

8. She Believes That Beauty Comes From The Inside Out.

"The most important trick to feeling and looking beautiful is loving yourself and being confident. If you're happy with yourself, that shows through any amount of makeup. I also make juice at home every morning, with celery, kale, arugula, cucumber, apple, lemon, and parsley. Every morning, same thing. It gives me a boost and I feel more refreshed when I drink it. And I love chia seeds."

9. Bushy Brows Are Her Obsession Right Now

"Right now, going into fall, I'm obsessed with strong bushy eyebrows à la young Brooke Shields."

10. Travel Time Is Her Spa Time.

"I love traveling anywhere tropical, with an ocean and a beach. I almost never wear makeup when I’m flying. The only thing I put on my face is a hydrating mask and sunglasses."

11. Her Fall Must-Haves Are All About Versatilty.

"This hat is a great year-round go-to, especially in LA. And this bag is one of the best purchases I've made — it works with almost everything."

12. She's Met Her Friends Through Blogging.

"I met some of my best friends through blogging. That's the best part about it: I have so much fun with the people that I’ve met and the friends that I’ve made."
