Jack Gleeson Makes Up For Joffrey Being The Worst

by Kaitlin Reilly

If there's one television character hated on a Voldemort level, it's Game Of Thrones ' ruthless ruler Joffrey Baratheon. Joffrey was so loathed that instead of being horrified by his "purple wedding" death, Joffrey's subjects (and plenty of GoT fans at home) cheered for his gruesome demise. I guess that's what happens when you have your fiancé's dog killed, order your subjects to be dismembered as casually as one might order pizza, and act like a spoiled, petulant child! Joffrey was one of the few Game Of Thrones characters who seemed completely nonredeemable — and fortunately, the show never gave him the chance to try to win our affection. One person who did, however? Jack Gleeson, the actor who played Joffrey on Game Of Thrones for four seasons.

It can't be easy portraying a universally loathed character, but Gleeson (who has since retired from acting) knows how to wear his title with pride — and isn't above joking about how hellish his alter ego is. That's because, outside of the series, Gleeson shockingly seems like a particularly great guy. Instead of harming your favorite childhood pet like Joffrey would, Gleeson would just snuggle him a bit harder than your temperamental pet might enjoy — but in, like, an adorable way. In fact, Gleeson's presence outside of the show may be the only thing that redeems Joffrey in anyway.

Here are all the times that Gleeson almost made us all forget about what a huge jerk Joffrey was, because Gleeson himself seems pretty damn great:

1. When Snuggled This Pug

The dog clearly has not seen Season 1 of Game Of Thrones.

2. When He Groaned Over The Purple Wedding

Because, really, it's kind of funny, no?

3. When He Proved He Was The Snazziest Dresser Ever

Joffrey cannot pull of tennis whites. No. Way.

4. When He Hung Out With This Prop

"See, guys? I promise it's just a show!"

5. When He Posed With A Mini Joffrey

If only the real Joffrey was that small initially...

6. When He Pointed Out Heteronormativity

Because unlike Joffrey, Gleeson knows how to check his privilege.

Joffrey may be all bad, but Gleeson definitely is not. If people can trust this guy with their pets, I think he's A-OK in my book.
