Burger King's Mythical Black Burger Hits The U.S.

by Maya Kachroo-Levine

It's official, all ye zombies and vampires and regular ole burger eaters: Burger King is bringing a black burger to America, and fans are both confused and entertained. The mythical BK black burger is a popular menu item in Japan, where the black burger bun is made with squid ink. The American version will have an identical bun, but will also have steak sauce on it because, ya know, 'MERICA. Apparently, Burger King fans across the country have been hoping and praying for some Japanese bun flavors to make the trek to the good ol' U.S. of A. And their wishes have been granted, because Burger King is rolling out the A.1. Halloween Whopper Sandwich on Sept. 28.

Rumors of the famed burger were leaked by a Reddit user (bleaks) early in September, and now, only 12 days after the Reddit post, those rumors have come to fruition. Personally, I am all for anything Halloween-themed, because it's one of my all time favorite holidays. And hell, if coffee shops can have their signature fall flavors, why can't a burger chain whip out a Halloween burger? Honestly, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often, and I'll definitely be sampling one, with a comically large side of fries. And then afterward, I'll go to the gym. Maybe.

Here's The Legendary Halloween Sandwich:

Look at that bun. I'm floored and intrigued all at the same time.

There Are A Few Photos Floating Around The Twitterverse, And Some Images Suggest The Burger In Japan Has Black Cheese:

Unfortunately, I don't think that part's coming to the U.S., but I'd be happy to be proven wrong. The black cheese definitely adds some spooky flair.

Overall, Survey Says:

See you all at Burger King on Sept. 28.
