How Khloe Kardashian Became A Blonde

When the Kardashians first came on the scene, they were known for their vibrant personalities, gorgeous faces, and their stunning dark locks. Fast forward to today, and most of the Kardashian and Jenner clan switch up their hair on the regular. But according to hair stylist Tracey Cunningham, Khloe Kardashian's blonde hair took months, according to fabulous hairstylist Tracey Cunningham. While Kylie's locks are ever evolving, Khloe has had the most consistent transformation. Personally, Khloe's blonde locks have been my favorite Kardashian look, and I'm happy to find out how the beautiful transformation occurred.

Cunningham sat down with Allure to discuss the youngest Kardashian sister's hair transformation. Last week, Kardashian posted a collage of photos to her Instagram account that featured images of herself over the previous months to illustrate how her hair gradually moved from dark brown to the current gorgeous blonde locks. Khloe actually ran down the transformation in her Instagram caption saying, "Tracey people seem to forget that my progression from dark to blonde took time. First I was chocolate brown, and then I added some highlights, then it was my ombre phase and now I am a blonde. Point is listen to the professionals."

In the interview, Allure asked Cunningham about the secret behind Kardashian's transformation. While many may immediately wish for golden tresses like Khloe's, unfortunately, the process is not that simple. Of the reality star's move from dark to light, Cunningham said, "Khloé is the lightest of the Kardashian sisters, and as a child, she had very light hair. Over the years, she went darker and darker. From the beginning of the transition—from her dark-brown hair to her current blonde—it took three to four months of gradual lightening." Basically, gorgeous hair like Khloe's isn't going to happen overnight. You've got to work for that gorgeous hair.

Cunningham also imparted some words of wisdom for those looking to make the switch to golden hair. She explained that it's not suitable for everyone and that the change requires patience. She said, "You have to be realistic and have patience and commitment. It takes time. It doesn't happen overnight." Cunningham also believes that not everyone can pull off blonde, saying, "Khloé is very lucky—she's a beautiful brunette and a gorgeous blonde. Not everyone can pull that off."

So what does it take to make the switch? There are a couple of things to keep in mind when brightening your hair color. Of Khloe's process to switch, Cunningham told Glamour, "The best way to go lighter is gradually with lots of conditioning treatments in between each service to help maintain healthy hair." Can you imagine how fried your hair would be if you bleached it instantly to go blonde overnight? So killer, in the worst way. Cunningham also reminded blondies-to-be that the transition can be expensive and time-consuming, so if you're not willing to shell out the cash or hours, don't do it. "Ask yourself how much time and money are you willing to invest in order to sustain the desired color, both in the salon and at home. Going from dark to light requires a lot of maintenance!" Cunningham preached to Glamour.

If you don't have a crazy talented hairstylist like Cunningham around, what are some tips for going from brunette to blonde?

1. Decide Wisely

This is a big change you're about to make. Imagine yourself as a blonde, think it over, and be sure that this step is one you're truly wanting to take.

2. Take It Slow

Don't assume you can jump right into being a blonde. Going blonde overnight or even over the period of a week or month can seriously damage your hair. If your hair becomes brittle, those Khloe tresses you've been lusting after won't have their signature shine.

3. Get Professional Help

No one who wants blonde hair wants it their locks to become green or orange, and certainly hair that breaks frays isn't ideal. That's why getting your hair carefully done by a professional stylist is the best call.

4. Only Go 2-3 Shade Lighters Per Appointment

Talented stylist Kyle White spoke with Lucky Shops about the transition shades, and he explains that a person should only move between between two to three shades at a time to avoid getting overwhelmed and zapping the moisture in your hair.

5. Invest In Hair Care

Maintenance is ultra important once you've reach blond status. Shampoos for color treated hair is key, and be sure to deep condition to retain moisture and health.

6. Be Wary of Heat Styling

Always use a heat protector, and if possible cut back on styling with heat based tools. Cunningham told Glamour that a lower heat setting is a great idea to maintain your color.

7. Rock It Like Khloe

Khloe is easily my favorite Kardashian so I'm biased here, but no one rocks blond like this gorgeous lady. Making a change is all about confidence, and Khloe has it in spade. If you're looking to copy Kardashian's transformation, be confident and know you look great!
