1D Member reported to be joining Cowell next stage

by Tobi Gbile

It looks like one One Direction bandmate surely stays true to the lyrics from their Midnight Memories homesick ballad, "Don't Forget Where You Belong," — because it has been reported by Entertainment Weekly that Louis Tomlinson might be joining The X Factor and his former mentor Simon Cowell as a guest judge during the judge's houses stage of the competition series, set to air at the end of October. While this is just a report at the moment — aka, unconfirmed — I could not be more excited at the prospect, because the "Drag Me Down" singer would totally be be the best guest judge The X Factor has ever seen.

It has been a year of crazy changes for Tomlinson: His world famous five-some band became a four-some, he found out that he is going to father to friend and LA stylist Briana Jungwirth's baby, and One Direction announced an upcoming hiatus.Thankfully, it appears like this has not deterred him from going back to his humble roots on The X Factor stage, where him and his four mates had their beginnings in 2010.

After placing third in the competition and being signed by Cowell, the band has returned to perform on the stage that built their career not once, but four times. Performing everything from "Gotta Be You" to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go," they never shy away from this stage, so it would make total sense that Tomlinson would be inclined to return.

Tomlinson even returned last year to offer advice to contestants behind the scenes, so it is no surprise that he reportedly might join former mentor and boss Cowell at the judge's houses round of the show. He wouldn't be the only one joining the esteemed panel of judges though, of course: Mark Ronson will be teaming up with Nick "Grimmy" Grimshaw, Jess Glynne with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, and Meghan Trainor with Rita Ora.

Even with this impressive lineup, Tomlinson will shine brighter than the rest — and here's why:

He's An The X Factor Veteran

The "Steal My Girl" singer knows exactly what it's like to stand and audition in front of Cowell and a panel of judges — he did it once himself! Not only will he know how to sympathize with the contestants at the judge's house round, but he will also be able to know what Cowell is looking for in a contestant.

He Gives Great Advice

Last year, Tomlinson stopped by the show to give advice to a contestant from his hometown. He was extremely grateful, and it was evident to the viewers that the 1D member did wonders to help the contestant's confidence in himself and his voice.

He's Mentored On The Show Before

In 2012, 1D's oldest member took to Australia with his bandmates to mentor the contestants on the Australian version of the show. It's clear that he's got some experience under his belt — he's basically a seasoned professional!

He's Hilarious

Any One Direction fan knows that Tomlinson has always been "the funny one," and there's a reason for that: He has a great sense of humor and is the definition of sarcastic and cheeky. He will definitely give viewers a laugh if he teams up with Cowell.

He's Diplomatic

When put in a sticky situation earlier this year when he was questioned about his Twitter fight with former bandmate and friend Malik, Tomlinson didn't beat around the bush, and was honest and upfront about the status of their relationship in an interview with James Corden on The Late Late Show . Honesty goes a long way in judging talent, so at least we know that he would give his honest opinion if needed.

It's Homecoming season, so it's basically the perfect time for Tomlinson to return to The X Factor stage, back where it all began. If the reports are true and he's really teaming up with Cowell, get ready for some great talent to be discovered.
