You Can Preview Another New 5SOS Song

by Maggie Malach

As anticipation for 5 Seconds of Summer's next album builds, fans are hungry for any new music. While seeing "Jet Black Heart" performed live might be peak 5SOS, a new preview of "Hey Everybody!" is pretty darn amazing too. While we can't hear the full version until Oct. 9, here's what we do know about the song.

There's a lot of static obscuring the track, although I could make out the lyrics "Hey everybody ... Live this way." Additionally, the clip appears to show Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin wearing fancy hats and throwing around dollar bills. That's it. That's all we get for 48 hours. However, the band did confirm that "Hey Everybody!" will be their second single off of Sounds Good Feels Good.

So we don't get a lot lyrically from the preview, but we get a glimpse at where the song fits into the greater scope of the album. The first single, "She Kinda Hot," is a cheeky, punk-rock anthem. It definitely highlights 5 Seconds of Summer's rebellious side and the album's larger concept of disillusionment. This is definitely echoed in "Hey Everybody!" which almost feels like a call to action. Of course, we'll find out what exactly that message is in due time.

However, we might have a hint, courtesy of Ashton Irwin. When speaking about the new music, he told Billboard:

"Look at top 40 radio. No one is writing music that highlights what everyone is scared to talk about — which is that everyone is sick and depressed these days. People our age, we all feel like sh*t about ourselves. We wake up and we look at our phones and there are a thousand opinions on who we are — or what we are. It’s destructive.”

While "Hey Everybody!" could definitely be touching on this theme (it certainly speaks to a large group of people), it also sounds like the upbeat musical element is reassurance that the band understands what their fanbase is going through.

"Hey Everybody!" also has the undeniable energy of "Jet Black Heart" and "Money," which means it has amazing potential. 5 Seconds of Summer's Sounds Good Feels Good drops on Oct. 23, but you can check out the "Hey Everybody!" preview above.
