You can always count on a good, old-fashioned time jump to keep things interesting. And that's exactly what The Vampire Diaries Season 7 premiere had in store. In the very first scene of the hour, TVD introduced a brand new flash forward three years into the future, which showed a stressed out Stefan running around a Brooklyn, NY storage locker looking for something. What, you may ask? A coffin. Whose coffin does it belong to? Why, none other than Damon Salvatore's! It turns out that in three years from now, Damon will be a desiccated corpse in a NYC storage locker. (So, basically, not the most ideal fortune in the world. But, hey, considering the show we're dealing with here, it could definitely be worse.)
Luckily, though, Stefan came prepared with a blood bag like any good brother would and fed Damon immediately, so that he could wake up to help Stefan with whatever is going on at that time. But that's the thing. Stefan seems panicked here and in dire need of his brother's assistance, but we have absolutely no idea what the cause is. The Heretics could have something to do with it, but considering we're already sinking out teeth into wampire drama, I have a feeling it's going to end up being something else, which means a new Big Bad could be on the horizon. Or perhaps a friend will eventually become a foe?
The only other piece of information we have to go on appeared in the second part of the flash forward later in the episode. Damon awakes and is pissed at Stefan for disturbing his beauty sleep (apparently he was hoping to go on a snoozefest until Elena returned). But Stefan tells him that "she" is coming after them, and then suddenly, the storage locker is under attack. We never see the character's face, just an outline. But it seems as though the Salvatores know this girl fairly well. (And did anyone else think that this mysterious "she" has blonde hair? Please tell me it isn't Caroline!)
Obviously, this flash forward leaves us with a ton of unanswered questions, but I have a feeling we'll be able to piece things together more and more as the season progresses. Either way, though, our beloved Mystic Falls brothers have a dark future ahead of them. Prepare yourselves…
