The MoCA Luncheon Was Ultra Stylish

by Renata Certo-Ware

When a designer/mogul puts on a fashion show at an event celebrating distinguished women, you know the vibes and the style are going to be fearless and fierce. Michael Kors' fashion show at the 9th Annual Distinguished Women In The Arts Luncheon at the Museum of Contemporary Art served up all sorts of chicness with his Fall 2015 collection, and several of the guests at the luncheon were also rocking creations by the designer.

Several of the luncheon's A-List guests showed their support for the designer, wearing pieces from his Michael Kors Collection. Aubrey Plaza kept it casual (with plenty of '70s vibes) in a silk blouse and ever-so slightly-flared cropped khaki pants, while Camilla Belle opted for a more formal, brightly colored frock. Barely Famous star Erin Foster rocked a khaki safari-style dress, and Alison Brie wore a coral dress and the most perfectly coordinated shoe-clutch game I've seen in a while.

Anna Wintour was also in attendance, somewhat inexplicably wearing a fur caplet. IMO, though, Kate Hudson is the winner, wearing a somewhat skimpy (but still chic) fitted halter dress with a peek-a-book cut-out in the front and saffron-colored shoes. Yes!

I loved seeing three of the industry's most stylish players posing for a selfie, and it's also always fun to see it from the camera's POV, too:

Something tells me Derek Blasberg has done this before...

It can be tricky to know how to dress for a formal event that is held in daylight hours, but some stars rocked it!

Here are some of the fashion hits from the luncheon:

1. Kate Hudson

This is how Hudson does "daytime." I love that look is stylishly sexy but fresh, and I love that she went for a saffron shoe to contrast with the black and white dress. A less seasoned dresser would have done red, since that's the obvious third-wheel color option, but that would've totally blended in with the red carpet. Well done, Hudson!

2. Camilla Belle

I'm loving the autumn-appropriate shades of orange and brown here, but they get the L.A. treatment with strappy sandals. Belle may make this pleated silk Michael Kors Collection dress look effortless, but it actually comes with a pretty big price tag. It's available for pre-order from Saks Fifth Avenue for $2975.

3. Alison Brie

See what I mean by about Brie's color coordination fleekness? She's wearing a belted wool crepe dress from the Michael Kors Collection, which retails at $1750.

4. Erin Foster

Foster wears a khaki Michael Kors safari-style dress, which is usually more of a summer look. But, she adds layers by pairing it with leggings, making it more seasonally apropos.

And, the misses...

5. Aubrey Plaza

Something about this look is just a little too "blah" for my liking. Especially since the theme of the luncheon is "Distinguished Women In The Arts." I just feel that Plaza, or her stylist, could have been a little more creative here. I love, love, love the blouse, but I would have liked to see a nice skirt that plays up the texture and pattern of the top.

6. Emily Blunt

Blunt looks beautiful in this gown, but... it's a luncheon! IMO, she looks much too formal for a daytime function. She should take a page from Hudson's book on how to go glam while the sun is in its zenith.

7. Anna Wintour

The dress is typical Wintour, if a bit dated, and the fur cape just feels out of place for LA.
