How To Throw A Golden Globes Party that Even Amy Poehler Would Want to Be Invited to

Normally, the Golden Globes are pretty fun to watch. But this year, with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosting for the second time, an incredible roster of nominees, and the suspense of how fabulous Jennifer Lawrence will look on the red carpet, we might just die from all the awesomeness.

With long speeches and even longer ads, watching the Golden Globes is always better with a crowd. Besides, who else will you talk about all the dresses with? Luckily, throwing a Golden Globes party doesn't have to mean forking over a whole paycheck. With some DIY decor, tasty bites, delicious drinks, and a gang of friends, this year's Golden Globes can be the best you've ever watched.

Create some custom party invitations

First off, for those of you who are really dedicated, Etsy has some custom Golden Globe invites you can print right from your home computer. You can also send your own online with a service like Paperless Post.

Make your place a little more Golden

For every decor element of your party, think gold, and think sparkly. Hang up some garland — Etsy has the widest selection — and supply some confetti in individual cups. You can even have your very own glittery photo booth. Don’t forget — balloons are always super easy in a pinch!

Get your guests to dress up

Because it’s not a party if a dress code isn’t involved. Tell everyone to incorporate a little something from their favorite nominated flick. They’ll have a wide range to choose from: The Wolf of Wall Street power suits, Chanel inspired Blue Jasmine outfits, 1970s American Hustle-style fabulous hairdos and deep V-necks, and even some Gravity-inspired space accessories.

Serve some award-worthy drinks...

The folks in The Wolf of Wall Street really knew how to party hard. As long as you stay away from strippers and cocaine, you should be able to have a good time and still make it to work the next day. Keep it classy and seasonal with this Cranberry Bourbon Fizz recipe. And feel free to go ahead and play the drinking game Poehler and Fey created for the show.

...and some popcorn to go with them

Because what’s an award party without some popcorn? Of course, you can serve the classic stuff, but feel free to think outside the box as well, with caramel or even bacon flavor. Whatever you serve, get yourself some DIY printable popcorn boxes. No one wants to fight over the popcorn bowl, and these are very cute.

Prepare some more tasty food

Remember to balance out all those Cranberry Bourbon Fizzes with some more substantial stuff — think dips, chips, and crudités. Hummus will always do the trick, but this is also a good chance to try something a little fancier. Zucchini bites with Harissa, goat cheese, lime, and mint, anyone?

Get everyone to cast a ballot

Last but not at all least, voting for every category is one of the most important — and fun! — parts of the night. Make each guest fill out a ballot and see whose predictions were most accurate as the event unfolds. You can even play for stakes with a prize for the winner. Print out your own ballot from buzzsugar.com. May the best woman win!
