A Sneak Peak Of The Weeknd X Alexander Wang

by Melanie Richtman

A few months after it was announced that Alexander Wang was leaving Balenciaga in his role as Creative Director, the designer announced an exciting new project with one of the most popular artists of the moment, The Weeknd. Two weeks ago, it was officially announced via Instagram that a Alexander Wang and The Weeknd collabortation would be a reality, but there remained a ton of mystery clouding the instantly-anticipated project. On Friday Nov. 13, however, The Weeknd shared photos of the collaboration on Twitter, revealing some of the pieces that will be a part of the WANGXO line.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, the pieces The Weeknd shared on Twitter were of all black items (which is one of Wang's favorite colors, right?), including a sleeveless hooded vest, a crew neck tee, a pair of cargo pants, and some high-top sneakers with a white stripe down the back, emblazoned with WANGXO.

On Nov. 14, Alexander Wang tweeted that the WANGXO collection will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the New York store on Grand Street, and will then be more widely available on Alexander Wang's website come Nov. 18. The collection ranges from a $40 WANGXO bandana to a steeper $575 for the "Eden" sneaker.

Personally, I cannot help but wonder whether the WANGXO Eden kicks will become the new "it" shoe, much like Kanye's Adidas Yeezy Boosts, which went on sale Nov. 14.

The Weeknd has also worn some of the WANGXO pieces on stage, including a graphic tee. Alexander Wang told Hypebeast that he and The Weeknd wanted to create a collection "that looks great on stage and can be worn in everyday life."

According to Hypebeast, the highly anticipated WANGXO collection is coming after Wang and The Weeknd collaborated at Coachella, where they created limited edition WANGXO bandanas for fans. The Weeknd also took over Alexander Wang's Instagram, which was unprecedented for the brand.

It seems the two quickly became pals and Wang provided much of The Weeknd's wardrobe for his Beauty Behind The Madness Tour. Hopefully this first capsule collection won't be the duo's last.
