Melissa McCarthy's New Collection For Lane Bryant

by Gina Jones 2

Launching on Nov. 19, Melissa McCarthy's holiday collection for Lane Bryant will soon be here to bless us all with a plus size line designed by one of our favorite plus size celebrities. The debut of the Melissa McCarthy Seven7 holiday collection was held on Nov. 12 at the Westfield Culver City Lane Bryant store near Los Angeles, where VIP guests met with McCarthy and LB for the first sneak peek at the latest line.

According to a press release after the unveiling, CEO and president of Lane Bryant Linda Heasley spoke about the brand's latest celebrity collaboration, noting, "We’re absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to carry the Melissa McCarthy Seven7 line at Lane Bryant. Offering the collection supports Lane Bryant’s mission to offer great fashion options to our customers."

As implied by the name perhaps, the collection contains seven items designed by McCarthy for the store: One T-shirt, two tanks, three pairs of jeans, and a poncho. The thoughtfully curated collection of garments proves that a line of carefully chosen pieces can be infinitely more powerful than a wide array of poor design decisions. What's better still is that it utilizes the concept of basic wardrobe staples, but gives every item that McCarthy charm.

The V-neck poncho is my personal favorite item from Melissa McCarthy Seven7. The winter wardrobe staple proves that a good poncho will never go out of style. I also love that for a holiday collection, McCarthy's line doesn't focus on glitter, red, green, or any of the cliche colors and styles of seasonal clothing.

Even by including tank tops, Melissa McCarthy Seven7 questions whether a holiday line has to cater to holiday prototypes, or whether it's best to focus on a selection of incredibly versatile items that will last all year.

Melissa McCarthy's designing debut came in summer 2015 with her own Melissa McCarthy Seven7 line. Although her personal collection was stocked not just on her website MelissaMcCarthy.com, but also on the e-retail destinations of plus size giants like Nordstrom and Lane Bryant, this capsule collection is exclusively for LB and will only be available to purchase in select locations or online.

Hopefully this is only the beginning of McCarthy's design career, and I personally can't wait to see what's to come for her third collection.
