Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello's wedding weekend has arrived in full force, and I'm sure I'm not the only one lamenting my lack of invite. But among the adorable table dressings and wild karaoke, the part I'm most jealous of is the sheer beauty of Vergara's rehearsal dinner dresses. The Modern Family actress began the Saturday evening soiree at Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach wearing in a form-fitting white silk dress that dreams are made of. It featured an intricate lace bodice and sheer panelling, with a sleek white pencil skirt with side split, and mermaid-esque frills.
The gorgeous gown Vergara donned once the dining and drinking were over was also truly delightful — partially due to her stand-out decision to eschew traditional white. LA-based designer Mark Zunino told People magazine: "She originally thought it to be white, then we played with the idea of a white beaded lace over nude, but ultimately decided on off-white over a soft pale pink."
Manufacturing the dress itself was also no mean feat. Whilst the crystal-encrusted lace bodice is hand-beaded, the flowing mid-length skirt is made from a jaw-dropping 14 layers of silk organza, taking 62 yards of fabric and three whole weeks to complete. For the rehearsal dinner alone! I wonder how extravagant her wedding dress will be?
People reports that Zunino is tipped to be the protege of Dynasty costume designer Nolan Miller, selling his fairytale-like gowns exclusively at Kleinfeld, so it's no wonder he was chosen as the dab-handed designer for the job. Luckily, it sounds like Vergara was overjoyed with the final results. "Sofia's reaction when she saw herself in the finished dress was that of pure joy and excitement," Zunino told People. "She couldn't get over how sculpted the dress was to her body, and said 'I don't want to take it off!'"
Of course, Vergara is famed for her talented eye for detail when it comes to picking out jaw-dropping evening outfits. Here are seven of her most spectacular:
1. Her Beautiful Bridal-Inspired Cover Up
Vergara took to Instagram Saturday to post a series of fun-loving photos showing her frolicking around Palm Beach in a lovely broderie anglaise flowing white maxi dress created by Brazilian designer Martha Medeiros — perfect for looking and feeling cool in the Florida heat.
2. Her Stunning Scarlet Red Carpet Gown
The actress stepped out in a beautiful backless floor-length red dress at the 29th American Cinematheque Awards in LA last month. With unique lace panelling on both the bodice and skirt hem, the dress was again designed by Martha Medeiros and contrasted beautifully with Vergara's tan and brunette tresses.
3. Her Amazing Emmys After-Party Look
Vergara wore a sparkling gold and silver gown with sequin finish by St John with flair as she graced the red carpet for the Emmy Awards back in September; the sort of dress many little girls dream of wearing to their high school prom.
4. Her Simple Grey Dress For Jimmy Kimmel Live!
She chose a simple grey knitted dress paired with nude heels and red lipstick for her arrival as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in September — proving it's always possible to be comfortable yet stylishly talk show-ready.
5. Cool Color-Block At Her Son's Graduation
Vergara chose a black, brown and white paneled bodycon dress with black platform heels to celebrate son Manolo's graduation from Emerson College back in May, combining both school and sartorial success!
6. Showcasing Striking Tiger Print During A Modern Family Shoot
The actress was to-roar-for in an eye-catching tiger print dress on the set of a shoot a few months ago!
7. Looking Beautifully Mellow in Yellow On Her Birthday
For her 43rd birthday celebrations this year, Vergara chose a flowing yellow wrap dress with loose waves and subtle jewelry — perfect for a low-key dinner with loved ones at her family home in LA. Not only is the dress great for the occasion; Vergara also makes yellow look deceptively easy to wear. Some people get all the luck!
