Dear 11-year-old me: I know you're really sad that unlike your neighbor who has two Gameboys, you don't have any. But lighten up — because when you're in your twenties a genius will invent a device that will turn your iPhone into a Gameboy. It's call the Smart Boy, and it attaches itself to your iPhone in a quick snap to give the look and feel of a Gameboy in the good old days. Now you don't have to watch Mr. Showoff play with his console while you have to just imagine what it would feel like by substituting it with a Spy Kids Happy Meal toy. You might not have had toys like him, but your adult self will have her sweet redemption!
If you're thinking that this talk of a modern Gameboy attachment is a prank, I beg you to reconsider. I don't want you to be the last in the know about something that will change you life forever. OK, that might have been a bit of a reach. I guess more than anything, this news will make it easier for you to clean out your childhood bedroom. All those game cartridges for your old Gameboy system has been collecting dust (that you will have to blow for it to work again) are waiting for you. Now you can bust them all out and have a nostalgia party that never needs to stop. (Side note: is it just me, or is the universe suddenly determined to bring back things that Millennials played with? Are we the most nostalgic generation, or does it just feel like it because we are nostalgic for nostalgia? Food for thought, people!)
According to the press release from Hyperkin, "The Smart Boy will come in the classic '80s Grey, a staple of retro electronics. More colors may follow." So get ready. Soon you will be playing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on your Pickachu Yellow Smart Boy.
You just slide this bad boy on and it charges through your phone! I wonder how the resolution will work ... and what happens to the bottom part of the screen.
Just think about all the games you will be able to play. Pokémon, Mario, Zelda. The list goes on and on.
Look To The Future
Maybe they'll figure out how to do it with the Gamecube next ...
