The Best Setting Sprays For Dry Skin

by Jessica Willingham

I love finding new and creative ways to make makeup last all day and night, no matter what comes my way. It's a relief to know the work I put in to get "highlight on fleek" isn't going to dust away at the first hug or bead of sweat. But making makeup last can be a challenge if you have dry skin. Here are my favorite setting sprays for dry skin and where to find them.

Makeup setting sprays are my favorite long lasting solution. Unlike primers, which can be matte or "regular" in formula, setting sprays come in a multitude of formulas that serve a diverse range of needs. You can find stick-like-glue sprays, sprays for oily skin, sprays for mature skin, cooling sprays, and setting sprays to nourish and heal dry, cracking and flaking skin.

If you're in the market for products that specifically treat or combat dry skin, look for terms like "moisturizing," "dewy," "luminous," and "healthy skin." These marketing terms represent more forgiving formulations. You definitely want to stay away from matte formulas in everything from foundation to sprays and liquid lipstick — mattes are drying for even normal skin.

Below are some of my favorite setting sprays for dry gals. Enjoy!

1. Urban Decay Chill Cooling & Hydrating Makeup Setting Spray

Urban Decay Cooling Makeup Setting Spray , $31, Sephora

This one gives a cooling sensation, so it's great for hurting skin. When you need a fresh boost of energy at work, spritz once on each side of your face.

2. NYX Makeup Setting Spray - Dewy Finish

Makeup Setting Spray - Dewy Finish, $8, Amazon

These are great sprays for the price, so you can pick up both and be prepared for any occasion. I love using the dewy spray to complete a holiday look.

3. e.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set

e.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set , $2, Amazon

This is an alcohol-free mist, so you won't dry out or break out from use. It's infused with aloe, green tea, cucumber, and vitamins A, C and E so it's great for everyday, or when you was to freshen up without applying foundation.

4. Evian Mineral Water Spray

Evian Mineral Water Spray, $14, Amazon

This is mineral spring water, so it can set your makeup but also refreshen it throughout the day. I keep it in my purse for when my foundation gets dry, flaky, or dull.

5. MAC Prep+Prime Fix+

MAC Prep+Prime Fix+, $23, Nordstrom

This is a staple in any professional artist's kit because it's so gentle on the skin, anyone can use it. It's mineral rich, so spray as often as you like or before and after your makeup is applied.

6. TATCHA Beauty Luminous Dewy Skin Mist

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, $48, Sephora

Yes, this is expensive but it is heavy duty, er, dewy. Kim Kardashian and Jaclyn Hill love this product, so it's definitely worth the cash.

7. Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix

Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix, $37, Amazon

This bad boy lasts 12 hours while still hydrating and boosting your skin's natural radiance.
