Megan Hilty Brings The Sass To Bravo

by Lindsay Denninger

Though known solely for showing television shows comprised of women screaming at each other, Bravo has recently let its hair down from those reality show roots and taken the first little jump into original, scripted series. Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce is Bravo’s very first non-reality series, and the show’s first season garnered critical appreciation and plenty of viewers who needed to know how Abby McCarthy’s life would end up. Season 2 is upon us, and the show is adding some new faces to the cast, like Retta from Parks and Recreation and Aaron Stanton of Mad Men . Also making an appearance is a star of stage and screen: Megan Hilty, whose Girlfriends' Guide character is changing things up in Season 2.

Hilty is a triple threat — an actress, classically trained singer, and dancer, she is best known for starring as Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked on Broadway and as Ivy Lynn on NBC’s musical series Smash. When she wasn’t singing her face off, Hilty was also appearing on shows like The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody , Desperate Housewives, Eli Stone, Louie, and Robot Chicken. Musicals are definitely in Hilty’s roots, so perhaps she’ll sing a little bit for her turn on Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce? She’s set to play Charlene, the new wife of Jo’s husband Robert Frumpkis. Frumpkis married Charlene while he was still married to Jo, so the marriage isn’t exactly legal, but I guess she’s standing by her man while he moves to Los Angeles to be closer to his daughter, Zoey.

Jo’s character is pretty volatile, and if Charlene is in the same vein as the demure, peppy women that Hilty usually portrays, I’m thinking some fireworks may happen when these two meet up. In fact, I have a few ideas about Charlene’s path this season...

Charlene & Jo Become Best Friends

I’m always game for a “The Boy Is Mine” face-off followed by the realization that the boy in question sucks and the women are better off as friends instead of fighting over this schmo. Frumpkis wouldn’t know what hit him if Charlene and Jo teamed up.

Charlene & Abby Become Best Friends

In the wake of their respective divorces, Jo and Abby depend on each other for a lot. What if that were threatened? If Charlene comes to Los Angeles with Frumpkis and takes a shine to Abby, Jo would probably freak the hell out about losing her friend to her husband’s new wife, and that, my friends, is definitely entertaining television.

Charlene Tries To Take Away Zoey

Frumpkis is coming to Los Angeles to spend time with Zoey, and though Charlene is from Louisville, Kentucky, she comes along. Perhaps this is all a plan to move Zoey back to Kentucky with them? Jo would totally go complete Mother Bear on Frumpkis and Charlene, so if you want to see the fur fly, I recommend that you hope and pray for this option here.
