'Supergirl' Staged Another Family Reuinon

by Leah Marilla Thomas

Kara Zor-El's evil Aunt made a smashing return on Monday night's Supergirl too late. It would have been a lot easier for the General to take down her neice while she didn't have her powers — timing is everything. Still, Astra is back on Supergirl and her many minions are ready to take on Kara.

Laura Benanti played both sister roles on Monday night; we also saw her as the Alura hologram program in the DEO, much to Hank Henshaw's apparent dismay. Even computer moms can advocate for their daughters! However, now that Astra is back, will we finally learn what she wants on and/or with Earth? She says she wants to save everyone, but is worried about her sister's mark on Kara and keeps sending aliens after her to take the girl down. My guess is that Astra is trying to establish or colonize a New Krypton, known as Kandor in the comics. While that is a noble cause, and we were introduced to a new alien refugee in Martian Manhunter in Monday's episode, Astra's methods could be a little nicer.

According to the promo for next week's episode "Hostile Takeover," she could be launching a wide scale attack on National City. She also appears to have a partner in crime — that would be Chris Vance as Non, He is a DC comics villain and also a Kryptonian scientist, which makes him a formidable foe for Team Supergirl. However, I'm still more worried about Kara Versus Astra, Round Two. Kara seemed pretty done with her Aunt in the promo, check it out below. Still, it's good to be getting back to the Fort Rozz and family conflicts on Supergirl in time for the winter finale. This will truly put Kara and her friends to the test!
