This X-Rated Picture Book Will Make Adults LOL

by Emma Oulton

However much you love your kids, reading the same picture book over and over again has got to get a little bit boring at times — that is, until you lay your hands on this alphabet book of double entendres that will go straight over your little one’s head. P is for P*ssy is full of words that, on their own, seem totally harmless — but put them all together, and you’re left with “A is for ass, B is for blow, and C is for cock.” Your kids won’t pick up on a thing, but you may struggle to stifle your giggles.

The alphabet book was created by Elissa Blount-Moorhead, and inspired by the way she livened up her own daughter’s bedtime reading by trying to sneak in some slightly racier words. The book is officially categorized as adult humor, but Blount-Moorhead hopes that parents will actually read it to their children. The book will teach children their letters every bit as effectively as if A had just stood for apple, after all — but with this book, parents can embrace sex-positivity at the same time. “I would love for kids not to be stressed out by words like 'ass' that have meanings going back to the Bible, and to know that words are just words,” Blount-Moorhead explains in an interview with Colorlines.

The dreamy illustrations by Meltem Sahin add brilliantly to the innuendo: the, er, male chicken used to illustrate the letter C is shown held at a man’s crotch level, and the tail of the pussycat that illustrates P is pointing right up between an open pair of legs. Blount-Moorhead says that her dream for her X-rated picture book is that “parents will read it to their kids and snicker.” Well, I think her dream my just come true; P is for P*ssy is on sale now, and I can’t imagine there’ll be much shortage of snickering.
