Girl Scout cookie season is upon us, and this year, Scouts will be able to manage their cookie empires online through a platform called Digital Cookie 2.0 — aka a portal that lets you buy Girl Scout cookies online. You'll still need to know or meet a Girl Scout to access the Thin Mints, but with Digital Cookie, you will be able to easily pay and select your shipping preferences all while helping your favorite Girl Scout learn how to manage a business online.
Just like in the pre-Internet days, all cookie sales are initiated by an enterprising young Scout. She may invite you to her personalized cookie website in person, via email, or even with the mobile app. At that point, you can select your order (a box of Tagalongs for me, please!), and choose your delivery option — you can have your cookies shipped, or in some areas, delivered to your door by a Girl Scout. But the benefits don't stop there.
After you place your order, according to the Girl Scouts website, "Girls can set their cookie goals, track their progress, manage orders and inventory, learn Internet safety skills, and more — all while they earn age-specific Cookie Business badges and explore ways to help others by investing their earnings back into their communities." That's a more practical lesson than I may have learned in all four years of college, plus, there are cookies involved.
Digital Cookie is also way cool for those of us who have little Girl Scout cousins across the country that we've never been able to get cookies from. Once again, the Girl Scouts are leading the charge in a new era of mentorship and preparing young girls for adulthood. If only I still had my Brownie sash to display in solidarity.
