Emily Blunt On Who She Based 'Sicario' Role Off Of

by Anna Klassen

One of the most gripping performances of 2015 comes in the form of Emily Blunt's idealistic FBI agent in Sicario . The film follows Blunt's Kate as she is recruited by a government task force leader to pursue a drug lord. Over the course of the mission, her optimistic view on the profession is put to question while working with a dangerous teammate who may have an alternate agenda. Directed by Prisoners' Denis Villeneuve, the film also stars Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro.

In an exclusive behind the scenes look from the film, Blunt talks about stepping into the shoes of a woman in the field, and inventing her own version of Kate's backstory for her performance. To get in the mindset of a female FBI agent, Blunt spent time speaking with real females in the profession and admits to crafting her character specifically after one woman she met. "There's a certain kind of personality you need to have in order to be a woman in law enforcement," Blunt says of what she learned from speaking with the women.
