13 Songs You Fell In Love To In The '90s

by Caitlyn Callegari

The '90s were a strangely emotional time for everyone, but they were especially emotional if you were a kid or a teen throughout the decade. You know, what with growing up, puberty, and all that. Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, I think it might have been partially due to all of the ridiculously sentimental music that was produced during that time, in addition to the hormonal imbalances. I mean, we all have songs we fell in love to in the '90s, don’t we? I know I do. And, no, that does not necessarily mean that my love was always reciprocated. There were instances where it was unrequited, at least sometimes. OK, a lot of times.

Regardless, if these lasting songs inspired you falling into a reciprocal love or not, it definitely didn't lessen their affect. Just consider the fact that there are definitely a few of these that were acknowledged as marriage song material. You know, the imagined marriage that you planned in your mind. (Whatever, you were young. At least you aren’t still doing that. Hopefully. Or maybe now at least you’re better at keeping it to yourself. That’s probably for the best.)

Here are 13 songs you most definitely fell in love to in the 90’s you big pile of mush, you.

1. Brandy, "Have You Ever"

This song is actually spiritual to me.

2. K-Ci & JoJo, "All My Life"

I was convinced, for a majority of my life, that this should be the universally accepted wedding song.

3. Savage Garden, "I Knew I Loved You"

BRB, I'm thinking of my first love and getting nostalgic.

4. Celine Dion, "Because You Loved Me"

Where are these kinds of ballads nowadays, people? I can't readily fall in love with someone without Celine Dion's melodic encouragement, now can I?

5. Mariah Carey, "Emotions"

They weren't all overtly sappy.

6. Brian McKnight, "Back At One"

I'll have a proper reaction to this song for you when I'm done picking myself up off of the floor. Thank you for your patience.

7. Usher, "You Make Me Wanna"

For the, ahem, more scandalous relationships you might have (definitely) been involved in.

8. *NSYNC, "(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time On You"

Spent a lot of days incorrectly relating this song about all-encompassing love to my obsession with Derek Jeter.

9. Goo Goo Dolls, "Iris"

I mean, isn't it still?

10. Backstreet Boys, "As Long As You Love Me"

I think we've all established that this song set an awful precedent for standards in romantic partners, but still.

11. Britney Spears, "Sometimes"

I don't know about you about you, but, as a once-shy kid, this was my anthem.

12. Jessica Simpson, "I Wanna Love You Forever"

Goes without saying, really.

13. Seal, "Kiss From A Rose"

My god, we were all so dramatic.

I bet you're feeling some type of way right now, aren't you? You're welcome for that. I think.
